After hearing Lucian commenting on how broad ATTF’s listeners must be after answering a PSC (Power System Corner). It go me a bit curious. So… here’s a survey for ATTF/IH listeners to see where the hell we all live! And of course some RC background information about them.
This will tell everyone where the majority of the listeners live, where they fly, and even ask the ultimate question… Do you think a plane will take off from a treadmill! :eek:

Successfully? I started trying to fly back in my teens, again in my 20's with limited success, and in earnest about 3 years ago. I recently took up helicopters, and have been enjoying that very much.

Since the VERY beginning. I had been long searching for an RC related podcast, having been very familiar with podcasts in general by then.

Do you fly on 2.4ghz? Yes. Exclusively now. I have the Spektrum module for my Futaba 72MHZ system. Haven't switched back to 72 since I started with 2.4.

Lipo in TX? No. I don't fly in Texas. Ask Chris.

Oh, wait, that's transmitter. Still no. I do have a pair I keep charged and carry in case I need them, but I use 2500 mah NMH batteries in both my TXs.

Member of 2 clubs, First WeedWacker Aerosquadron and Miramar RC Flyers. Anywhere, I keep a DWFoamy in my trunk most days.

Yes,Yes,Yes,No. But I'm tired of the "glow slim" and have moved to almost all Gas or Elec. Why would you try and fly a plane w/out a motor?

As long as it has a motor, I'll fly-it! Large(26cc to 85cc) Gas planes are always first choice. But lately I've found myself at the field w/a foamy and my Raptor 30 Heli?

Blood sweat and time...... I build GS planes for $$$$. I would have a hard time affording this hobby if it was not for that income.

Since the wheels have non-zero moment of inertia, if you have unlimited power, you can prevent a plane from moving by applying to the wheels the force equal to the engine thrust. The wheels would be accelerating very fast and probably disintegrate before long.

Foam, Balsa and a few composite fuses. I think a lot of my PA Katana MD is Carbon Fiber. Ritewings are foam cores, but have a custom glassing on it, so Roof repair material also.

I have listened to RC Flightcast, but I just don't really have time for podcasts. I have talked with probably All the other hosts of the other podcasts at one time or another, or met them in person. I am sure they all put out a quality product.

Only time I have flown anything else is when I used TX's that came with an RTF model. Ordered a DX7 almost from the start and glad I did. Hitec Aurora 9 on the way!!

Do you fly on 2.4ghz? No....still old 72....optic 6 w/spectra for planes. However YES for my rc car TX. Old AA tray eroded. Took a wore out 3s battery that still held some juice and converted it (wouldn't pull amps anymore).

Lipo in TX? No...trouble finding a battery that fits. Low priority.

Yes or no, can a plane take off from a treadmill?
Of course. Since the plane's thrust is via the air, the treadmill does not affect thrust. But it does affect the wheels, and the effects increase with the wheels' resistance (to movement). So it makes take-off more difficult, unless you have really, really smooth wheels.
