In pursuant to the question that "Al" asked... "What is Hydraulic Lock", I
pose the next question I thought he'd ask but didn't...
"How does one prevent hydraulic lock?

Everyone's got their own little tricks, depending on preference.
Some folks loosen the plug and spin the engine, some turn it once by hand to
check it before cramming the starter on there. If hydraulic lock is a
frequent problem for you, check that you mix isn't too rich on the idle,
causing gobs of fuel to be dumped in when the engine has nowhere to put it.
Also take care if cranking for a long time without getting the engine to
fire. If it's not firing because of a plug or compression problem (vice a
fuel delivery problem), chances are you've built up a fair amount of liquid
fuel in the case, and may want to stop and vent before continuing.

Using a fuel clamp on the carb line works for me.

A great deal of the hydrolic lock problems are caused by one overfilling his
fuel tank when he is plumbed for muffler pressure. Any overflow will be
route into the muffler. This raw fuel will immediately be sucked into the
fuel chamber on the first stroke of the piston. Raw fuel can also end up uin
the muffler from a muffler pressure fuelled system if one is not carefull
how it is carried.
