I got an Edge 540 used that is a Hangar 9, it is the 27% with a 78inch wing span. I am want to make it electric. Do you think this would be an OK plane for a conversion? What specs would be recommended for a plane this size?

I just finished a Sebart Su29 @ 78" using a Hacker A60-S on 10s, 90amp ESC and 2 x 5s 3900mAh Thunderpower lipos,. AUW 4.7kg (10.5lb)
It's a pretty lightly built plane though, electric through and through.
I imagine your edge wold come out heavier, so maybe the Hacker A60-M, or an e-flite power 160?
Depends on what kind of performance you want, unlimited 3d or more 'normal' aerbatics
*edit* Had a quick look on hanger9's website for you they don't seem to make the edge any more, but they have a 27% Extra 260 that they reccommend the e-flite power 160 for.
They p160 id (from memory) about 2700w peak, so any motor in that ball park would give you *pleny* of power

The problem isnt with converting it to electric, that shouldnt be much of a problem. The real trick is getting the batteries in and out easily since it looks like the wing would/might be in the way?
I would be a little concerned with the all up weight though. any idea what it might weigh fully assembled? I'd have to put my money on it being overweight when finished.

I have a bunch of glow planes that I thought about converting but have decided not to because of the battery access problem and the fact that there are sooo many other nice models available that are designed for electric. I decided to to just sell them and buy new.

I have a Nitroplanes Extra that at 80" is essentially the same airplane. I converted it with a 10s2p A123 battery and a Hacker 60 series motor and a 20x13 APC prop. It will fly about 10 minutes on a charge for me since I use the motor sparingly.. It is aerobatic but not 3d.
It takes about 20 minutes to recharge the batteries within the aircraft.
