Good luck, I've been looking for a lifetime. I gues we could start our own club here at the LSU lakes....

Shame I don't live anymore in P'Cola or else I'd gladly meet up with you folks. Bit of a commute for me at the present time. ;)

I live on the coast in Gautier. Used to be a club that was out of Mobile on the lake up by the Arts Museum.

There is a club in Mobile. I live in Montgomery and just got an email from a member last night about meeting up with them. When I get some contact info, I'll pass it along. A guy in south FL passed my info to him. I'm not one to put anyone's contact info on the internet without their permission. I'm sure he would not mind considering the reason, but I would like to make sure first.

There is a member on the forum that is in Mobile, RhumbLine is his name. You might check with him.

Maybe we can meet up sometime. My girlfriend's family is in Gulfport and we go down there every couple of months.

I'm just north of Jackson, roughly 165 miles or so north of Gulfport. A trip to join you at a location might be doable, with enough advance notice. Been to Gautier many, many years ago. This was pre-Camille, pre-Katrina. Would be nice to meet some of you, um, y'all.

There are some go-fast guys up this way, but no other scale type boaters that I'm aware of. Also a good many r/c flyers, to whom the two LHS's cater.

Yea, McGuires is fun. Did you staple a dollar to the ceiling or wall? They used to be a small hole-in-the-wall in an old strip mall on Pace Blvd that we used to patronize in the late '70s. The locals & Navy took to the the place & helped them expand into what they are today. If you haven't already, be sure to attend their St. Paddies Day Celebration & stay late for the infamous wet tee-shirt contest. With Sammy's next door, you can imagine the kind of talent that walks out on stage!

Boy I could tell you many stories about the place, but we won't go there... My fiancée at the time used to be one of their barmaids while I worked in the kitchen at Flounders Ale House, another McGuire establishment, across the bridges in P'Beach. Lets just say it was a great place to work in your early twenties. :D :D

XRay, I'm in Lafayette, an hour from the lakes. I don't really have a good pond here any more and so I have been building planes while the fleet languishes. The Tamiya Yamato, Lindy USS Kidd conversion and the the PT815 all just need a couple of evenings' TLC to be seaworthy again. Don't know what your interests are, but it would be real fun to find someone to sail with. That's the main reason I gave up on boats.

Sounds like a plan. I know of a couple of places around here.

I have a few sailboats, 1/48 submarine and a few others.

I am finishing a Dumas Chris Craft, the 16' hydroplane. My girlfriend is in Lafayette and I go there often. I had planned on running the boat near the UL campus, too. And I would love to see a Lindy Blue devil in action!

Xray, that would be fun. I work at UL. I have at least a dozen more "in production", but none near running. Oh wait, I have a heavily modified Lindy Diesel tug that should be ready to go. I used to sail at Beaver Park, by the airport, but for some reason the city has dropped the water level by about 3 feet which makes it more mud flats than water. I can't even reach the water from the dock. Veterans Park has a small pond, but again the water level is such that launching is quite tricky. Girard Park has a duck pond but it is usually crowded and the duckpond is, well, a duckpond. Pics of my boats in better times are on the Lindyfletcher site on Yahoo.

Throw me a PM the next time you are coming over and we can set something up. Cheers, Jeff.

It sounds like you know the lafayette lakes much better than I do. I estimate I'll finish the Chris Craft in about two to four weeks. I would like to do a maiden run either at the LSU lakes or at the Lake Palourde campground in Morgan city. Post some pics of you USS KIDD!

Yes! I did staple a dollar to the wall under the "I think I'll have another beer" sign!
I was super-impressed by the food... and the ladies.

XRay,

Here's a few photos of the Kidd in better times. Water shots were taken at Beaver Park when they used to maintain it. I built the Kidd 7 or 8 years ago (Can't believe it has been that long). It was my first real build, as opposed to just assembly. Spent some time in BR on the real one, took a lot of pics. I have two more Lindyfletcher kits, one with a fg hull and resin turrets, and of course I now have Tom's photoetch sets.

Always had trouble with the deck leaking, and I have some stuff to make a seal, never got to it. Maybe time to dust her off and charge the batt.

Cheers, Jeff

Never did finish the PT815. The home-made NiMH is a little heavy, should probably go lipo. Fun to play with though, and with 3 motors, really scoots.

The Lindy Tug I started as just a simple fill-in build, spent hours on it. Never sailed it anywhere other than the tub though.

Don't have any pics of the Yamato, it predates my digital camera, which must make it nearly a decade old. It's just the stock Tamiya kit with the noisy gearbox and leaky shafts. Runs very nicely though.

Cheers,
Jeff

That's really impressive! Your KIDD is one of the nicest Lindy conversions I've seen! I would to see it run! Luckily, I'm off this weekend and plan to get the Chris Craft even more close to completion...

Xray, thanks. I think I played with it off and on for about 3 years. My brother used to rag me that they built the real one in a quarter the time. You've got me all inspired. I'll get try and get some time this week to get the Kidd seaworthy. I noticed this morning that have knocked a barrel off one of the 20's somewhere along the way and I seem to remember that I was having some shaft coupler problems about the time she "retired." Perhaps we can hook up at the Lakes when you are ready to maiden your CC. The old dear deserves some more sea time. She looks great on the water and with the battery fastened down low like that I can heel her over til the rail goes under and she pops right back up. Now if I can just seal the deck......

Cheers,
Jeff

ok..for the guys, that are close to gufport,MS.

do you know of any decent waters to run our boats? i found one park here in gulfport with clear water, nice pavillion, but a lot of algea growing in the pond.. that might clog you prop... also the water is not very deep, so no sail-boats.

still trying to get my shed set up, so i can unpack my fleet and charge the radio though

I know of a couple of places. One is the Naval Support barracks in Pascagoula, they have a nice lake with a sandy beach. I'll have to check to see if it's still open. They have shut so much military down around here. I also own a some land on a lake up in Plum Bluff (off the Pascagoula River). Before Katrina I had a small dock and used to sail my sailboats there. Its a real nice lake and its spring fed so it keeps pretty clear.

i have been looking in the gulfport area some more, but besides the park i mentioned earlier.. there is not much around here.but i guess that park is ok, if you watch where you sail .

im about ready to get a couple boats into the water.

so whoever wants to meet up on a sunday afternoon to run some boats let me know and we can decide on a location
