Hi does any know of a supplier of material in tha uk for model yachts as I want to make a set of storm sails for my yacht, the only material I can find is on ebay and only comes in 1 meter square,

also I have seen many yachts on my local lake with what looks like thick transparent plastic sail material, may give that ago too?

Here you go:

All these suppliers will supply you with all the stuff needed to make sails, ask around at the pond what the local sailors are using, and make your own choice what to try first.
For storm sails, I would use 50 - 75 micron polyester film (also known as drafting film ) , using the 50 for a one metre yacht.
What size is your yacht?
Many sailmakers are now recommending the use of scrim, which is reinforced and doesn't crease as easily,so I'm told. :)
For anything over 30", panelled sails are better, so check out the many sail making forums available on the net, not just on this forum (much as I like it!)
P.S. In Southampton, you might be able to get some offcuts of lightweight dacron from one of the local sail-lofts, perfect for stormsails, and probably free! :D

Yep, look in yellow pages for sail makers or chandlers (full size boats). There are different grades of spinaker cloth. Perfect for sails, you will probably be able to scrounge off cuts.
