View Full Version : Discussion Where to fly... Wing combat, non AMA

I know there are several AMA fields close by where I live but I'm about to be a cash-strapped college student (again) so considering membership to the AMA and then to the most local club is mostly out of the question. I was lucky to live near a park in California where locals would meet up and bash foamy wings around during lunch--no club, no dues, no politics (well, mostly); but now I live in SE Pennsylvania and I would like to know if such a place exists near here.

Basically, I don't want to have to pay a bunch of money to join a club to fly in a place that has overly restrictive rules (not saying all clubs do, but most clubs I've seen aren't too keen on full-contact foamy combat).

I would even go so far as to volunteer my front yard here (about 6 square acres including the hay field) but my landlords most likely wouldn't agree to it, and I'm sure the neighbors are barely tolerating me boring holes in the sky at odd hours as it is. Anyway.

Thanks for any suggestions. Cheers~

P.S.: Miss you guys in San Jose, sorry I had to leave.
p.p.s: please don't belabor me with pros/cons re: joining AMA. Unless any of you are willing to pay for it, please just don't bring it up. Thanks!

Even IF someone paid for my AMA membership, i wouldn't join any of the clubs in my area. It's pretty much only glow guys, over 80 years old and spit at anything electric. No thanks.

We used to think that here also, but now we've got them inviting to do combat demos at their fly-ins. Turns out they are a great bunch of guys even though many of them do just fly gas.

Move to Oahu ..

There is a public field a mile away from me.. They do wing (contact) combat 4 times a week.

Most everyone uses a "combat wing" XR.. and lots of tape :)

I am about 60 miles from you and I just use a couple of local school yards. Nobody bothers us, Of course we try to avoid flying when there is a actual school function going on.

PS. WW raider and lots of tape is a nice combat setup. Love to take on your XR combat wings in hawaii.
