View Full Version : ? Value of old MRC trucks?

Years ago, I had an MRC "World Scale" Buggy. It
was called Desert Thunder. Long gone now.
Thought it would make a good home for a pair of motors
and ESP I have laying around.
Stopped in at a LHS and asked around for one.
(Yes, I know they stopped making them.)
The counter-monkey-know-it-all says "sure! Cost you
about $1400. Give me 700 now and I will keep my eye
on E-Bay till one pops-up."
He claims the last one he saw was $1400 high-bid
and there was fierce bidding. This guy is known to
blow a lot of smoke...
Dork.
I found a new Desert Thunder AND a Baja King at another
shop and bought them both. $169 each.
So, are these things worth as much as the dork said or are
they selling for closer to retail?
Last one I saw on the Bay had a BY NOW at $200.
Fully built, painted, great shape.
So what do I do? Sell these, sit on these?
I want to run one of them, would that be foolish?
Are they too valuable to use, or are they just old?
Thanks for any advice,
John

No they are not worth that much anymore, and as far as ebay goes, that's a
load of crap. I sold a Dessert Thunder new in the box and barely went for
$100. About 6 months before that I sold a NIB Thunderking for just over
$130.

I have a pair of hotshots, circa 1986, that i fully restored. I usually see
them on ebay for $200/good condition or as much as $400/NIB.
Dont know how old the desert thunder is, but heres the trick:
If you see a reasonably nice listing of spare parts for it available on
ebay, then drive it. I drive one of my hotshots because the parts listing on
ebay is usually two full pages long and the competition is heavy (so prices
never get crazy)
