View Full Version : RC10 GT - Bent Arms
Tony Sutton
Apr 11, 2003, 03:59 AM
I was playing with my RC10 GT today when I lost control with the truck and
it crashed head-on to a solid wall. Kapow!
Upon close inspection, the front blue arms are bent, as seen at
http://www.hypertony.co.uk/gallery/nitro/Dcp_1673 with two arrows showing
the exact location.
I would like to know if it's still OK to carry on playing or do I have to
get a new arms?
Thanks,

Know virtually nothing about your particular vehicle, however I would say
that if you continue to run it with a part/parts bent you may be causing
wear on another unseen part or bearing(possibly a lot more expensive or even
ireplacable),vehicle will have been designed to work with such and such a
tolerance if you go outwith this you may be causing even more damage. How
expensive are two new arms compared to the damage you might be doing?
I take it you have checked for other crash damage.A complete rebuild may
show parts that fitted easily before now need to be "persuaded" to fit.

I would suspect that if those two posts are bent, than something else is
bent too...the chassis perhaps. Replace them and see if the news one fit
correctly... while you're there look for anything that doesnt look right.
This is the problem with aluminum parts.

Heh, I named the model on the subject line and in the message body :)
RC10 GT
I see your point... it costs £6 plus £5 "surcharge" and £3 delivery = total
£14 from http://www.wheelspinmodels.co.uk
I think the surcharge is a bit of a rip off - know of any other online shops
thta sells this part?
Many thanks,

Hi Tony.
Wasn't trying to say I had no idea what vehicle you were talking about
just that I didn't have one.
Sorry but I do not have any knowledge of a specific supplier on
line.Maybe a Google search ( www.google.com )will turn up lots of suppliers
but I don't have any recomendations? All my transactions are in cash and I
live in a major city ,Edinburgh,so I have an embarresment of good model
shops (I get to see goods before buying them, there are a few posts in here
about people not getting the goods they thought they were getting).

Holy flirking... is that aluminum, son? :-)
It looks like you bent up the front of the truck pretty badly. The
whole front end is turned up. I expect that the steering will be
serious whacky.

Tony, I looked at your photo.
Well, what you have bent there are not *ARMS*, but what Associated calls "nose
brace tubes".
Man, you musta smacked that truck pretty hard to do such damage.
Your front end is now pretty *tweaked" and your steering will be screwed up
until you straighten out that chassis.
Get the new nose brace tubes, but try to straighten out your chassis as much as
you can, before you install them.
You may have to play around with it to get it right.
Those nose brace tubes should be pretty cheap, and also should be readily
available at any hobby shop.
If you order "Arms" you're ordering the wrong parts.
You may even get away with straightening out the tubes, but I would just buy
new ones.

I know it was the wrong name term as I didn't have the name listed. But the
closest match I could find was 'arms' ;) I have now since found out the real
name from the manual.

Yes, right on the wall headon!

Indeed, from what I can see, the chassis is a bit bent, so I guess it'll
have to be adjusted

From what I can see, new tubes would be better than trying to straighting
it. So yeah, I need to buy some.

Because the order was under £10, they slapped me with an £5 surcharge fee
and their delivery is £3.
It's Part number 7315 - Blue Nose Brace Tube.
I did look at your site yesterday, but did not find the parts - is it
hidden? :)
Many thanks.

Perhaps. I won't know until I get the new tubes and see how bad it is.

Different question, but on the same subject of my RC10 GT being crashed to
the wall.
I now find that when I go "forward" without the engine being run, just
sitting on the table, the servo starts to 'jumps' i.e. when I push the
control stick to forward slowly and hold it there, the servo would move,
jump back to the same place and does it again and again. Same thing when I
move the control stick back (brake), it just jumps.
I have checked the cables and it's secured.
Does it mean the servo is dead too?
You can see what I mean at http://www.hypertony.co.uk/photos/nitro/servo.wmv

YES! they're pretty cheap though, you can get a Futaba 3001/148 for about a
tenner to replace the servo that died. That might have been the cause of the
crash too, usually because fuel gets inside the servo or vibration has
killed it.

You have a glitch there.
Try plugging the steering servo in the throttle/brake socket on your
receiver... and vice versa. If the steering servo is now glitching (but that
throttle servo is working ok), the prob is in your receiver.
If the bad servo still glitches in the new plug slot, then it's your servo.
After a severe crash like you had, it is common to develop radio problems. Make
sure your crystal is firmly seated in its socket. Take your reciever apart and
check to see if you cracked the circuit board. Make sure your antennae
connection is still sound.
I have had several glitching problems with my radios. Usually a good
cleaning, and some time for everything to dry out cures it... other times, it's
off to the LHS for a new part. ;-(
Good luck, let me know what happens, I may have another solution.
BTW, good use of your vid camera to illustrate your problem.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video must be worth a million.

Another company offered me £5.60 plus £1.50 P&P
Can anyone beat that price? If not, I'll go with them.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner.
For reasons unknown, my newsgroup server is very tempramental and I have a

The online shop on my site is under construction atm.
