Well I finally did it. My C160 Transall from Nitro Planes is on its way. Now I am trying to get the motors and ESC that I need. Well even with my motocalc software I cannot understand how to choose the correct combination. Also I want to get my motors and ESC from hobby king http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_listCategoriesAndProducts.asp?catname=All+Outru nner+Motors&idCategory=63&ParentCat=59 They have Turnigy Motors that do not show up on my motocalc. I want to use Hobby King simply because of the cost savings.
I know I want to use two 3 cell lipos (they fit well in the nacells). I just cannot understand the numbering for the motors and ESC's. Also I am going to add appx. 50 grams of weight for retracts and actuating load door. BTW I live at 6,000 feet. Please help.
Thanks in advance,
Karl in Colorado

There are a few threads on this plane on the site... search around and you'll find them.
You can enter any motor into motocalc if you can find its constants (Io aka idle current, KV and Rm aka resistance).
Since the plane is built for .30 glow motors, you want something around 600W each side.

hello!
Look at the www.aeromodelismos.gr for our project. CMP C-160 transal electric.
You will need 2 motors 150-180 gramms 800 kv, 2 esc 60-80A, 9X6 or 10X6 3-blade props (we used Master Airscrew contra-rotating) and one 4 cell lipo 5000 MAh. Total weight 5000-5500 gramms. It flys like a dream!

Wow, it all sounds great. I went to your web page and noticed that it is in Greek. So I will try to navigate my way through it.
I really like the one battery and the counter rotating three bladed setup.
I would like to talk to you more.
Sincerely,
Karl in Colorado

Thanks soo much for your efforts. I went to the site and it asks me to register to see the link. I did this. When I was sent my activation Email it came in Greek.
Within that Email is my activation code.

I'm not registered on the site and the link takes me to the C-160 forum page in English. Anyone else had that problem stated above?
Cheers,
Steve

Karl,
I was part of a huge effort to get the C-160 nailed down for decent flying. The thread is long but well worth your time.

I still have mine flying, as well as four more NIB waiting for the day that they are needed to replace this tired airframe.

Edd

Karl, read the C160 thread to understand the issue of the elevator trim due to incidence issue. I'm running two Evo 25's and 40 amp esc's and a single 4s 5000 in the fuse. I also cut a hatch in mine. I repainted mine so cutting a hatch was not a big deal. You'll find it flies fine on two 25's at our altitude.
Thanks, Jerry.

Hi Karl,
If I get a chance later today, I will post a photo of how much I had to change the horz stab from the stock position. It was nearly 4* off from what it should have been. Now the plane flies with flat elevator trim. You really need to check to see if your copy has that problem, as no CG change in the world will make it a pleasent flyer otherwise. I fully agree with Jerry's comment on this.
Regards,
Edd
