Hoping someone can point me in the right direction!
I want to run my charger from my 12volt car battery at the field. I need at least an output of 15volts to charge my battery packs.
Has anyone built a dc-dc converter??
Any help would be appreciated!!

Would 24V be to much ?
(thinking 2-12V batterys)

When running the engine, your alternator will put out somewhere between 14 and 15 volts. If that isn't enough a second 12 volt battery in series with your car battery will be the least expensive way to go. A 12 volt lawn tractor battery will cost you less than $20.

A high current DC-DC converter is tricky and expensive. Addiotnal batteries are a pain to carry round. It would almost certainly be easier and cheaper to buy another charger with the voltage booster built in. E.g. the Hitec CG340 will charge up to 16 cells from 12V and costs around $40.

He might be trying to charge Lithiums. If you're able to do it at home, I suggest transporting you A/C power supply to the field with you, and powering it from an invertor that converts the 12V to A/C.. They're cheap enough these days.
