Hi,
I want to "upgrade" the low quality pots of an E_Sky Tx to more decent ones.
My plan is to use conductive paint or opamps to get the right range.
1) Is it better to use carbon pots or conductive plastic pots?
2) Has anyone done this before? If so, Can you point me to their thread?
Thanks!

I alway encounter the same problem with ESKY Transmitter alway encounter a Dirty Potentiometer, the easy solution is Spray it with a Contact Cleaner.
another better solution is to use a Better Transmitter such as FUTABA FF7, FF8 or 9CHP Transmitter.....my Esky Transmitter is 35 MHZ......I remove its crystal and Plug it to my FUTABA 36 MHZ Transmitter Modules, and Amazingly its perfectly working........Now, I can use all the Feature of Computer Transmitter on a cheap Coaxial Helicopter.
I wish the Newer Generation transmitter would use a CONTACTLESS HALL EFFECT SENSOR.........I am still wondering why a Most expensive Transmitter Radio such a FUTABA 14MZ still using an Old Mechanical Potentiometer.

Caix Deoxit is your friend.
Hall effect sensors are vunerable to magnetic interference. Mechanical potentiometers aren't.

Because its cheap. Contact cleaner solves dirt problems, but not worn out sprayed carbon tracks. Moulded carbon are better, but cost a LOT more. If you can find one physically and electrically the same, swap to that.
The Doyen, is, of course an optical encoder. But they cost more than the whole transmitter..each!

Hi,
E-Sky pots are so bad that anything is better and no, electric cleaner cant solve the problem in the long run. After some reseach I have found that "conductive plastic" pots ofer the longest life. I have found a few in my workshop and have replaced the E-Sky ones with them. As of now they seem to work really nicely :)

Probably I am going to order this http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/90782.pdf
They are only a few Euros and have a life of 100000 operations

Any mil speced pot by Allen Bradly/ Clarostat or similar mfgr with same physical dimensions & resistance would give acceptable results.
