I want to get one of these for a friend as a gift. he did alota plumbing/gas/electrical work at my home, and he did it for free.
he flies mostly giant and high-end stuff, so i thought this would be an interesting model for his hangar. what else do you get for the guy who has all the planes?!?!
any links or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance.
ps. I'd like it to have the very big round cowl. i saw the one at hobbylobby, and it doesn't look as impressive as other geebees i've seen b/c the cowl isn't like a big mouth

www.nitroplanes.com/
Put Gee Bee R2 in the search box
It will list several kits. The 71 inch wingsopan kit is a very nice one!
A buddy of mine has one!

dag and komet,
WOW!, that's big.
i may go with the nitromodels geebee. i'm concerned i may have heard bad things about the nitromodels company, but i'll have to research that in tradertalk?
thanks again to all of you who have helped.

I think the nitroplanes one may be either sold out or discontinued. I could be looking at the wrong though.
Great planes makes one about the same size as well:

If you can find one though. He is not currently selling any kits due to the economy situation. His is an excellent kit and puts the others to shame.
Watch EBay, etc for one.
I have one, still in the box, but no way I am giving it up.

to put in my $.02
i just bought, built, and flew the pacific aeromodels 82" 1.20 geebee y and it is a fantastic aircraft.
we modified the fuselage area just ahead of the windscreen to put a hatch in as there is not stock access to the inside of the fuse in stock form without the wing attached.
we used a cheepo large BP outrunner and a 5000mah 10s setup; it flies fantastic. ive flown the stubby gee-bee variants before and they can be tricky. this one is a walk in the park; nothing wierd, easy landings.

once again, i must thank all of you for the helpful suggestions and links to geebees. some of them are huge.
i was going to chance it on the nitromodels geebee, but it is out of stock/discontinued, and they say none for 2 months - i don't get it - if it's discontinued, how will they get more in 2 months.
so, i am likely going with the greatplanes model from towerhobby:

my goal is to build it electric. this is b/c we are an elec. only flying club.
can any of you suggest motors for a model this large? this will be my largest build to date, so your advice is much needed and much appreciated.
thanks

The have a convert to electric on their web page.
http://www.greatplanes.com/airplanes/gpma1326.html#convert
Its at least a good starting point
I thought of doing this, but no good way to get the batteries in and out without pulling the wings. I'll be interested to see how you handle this. Good luck

pairadocs---If you look in the "glow to elec conversion" forum just down from this one, you will find a lengthy thread on the Hobby Lobby 84" Gee Bee covering various power applications & other interesting info
