It's that time of year again, and the Chilliwack fly in is on the Memorial day weekend, anyone who wishes to come early is welcome, and it is suggested that you may wish to " reserve "a spot at the field for camping, by letting me know if you have a tent, trailer , MH etc.
Also this is a SWAP MEET....so bring anything you want to part with, and get it a new home. also as usual, there will be floaty flying, and.... weather permitting, a BBQ type dinner Saturday night. ................You can email me.....eflier@dowco.com
Or phone 604-792-6814 if you need directions or other information on hotels, motels etc.
Looking forward to seeing you all here again this year.
yes, you too Glen.

Har HARR:) If I could move there I would;) I will try my darndest not to steal the best crash award from you folks to add to my "wall of shame":D

Mr. "neweheliflyer" is taking bets against my making it there with two intact heli's for some strange reason. Leaving with such would be a real bonus:)

Looking forward to it!

Cheers!

Mr. night flying heli pilot,
I wish no such bad luck on you, but merely was noting that a two week stay would just about guarantee you the first and last pilot award!:D
If all goes well ron will have to keep the best crash award as a paper weight in the shop!
sincerly,
mr. neweheliflyer

:) I won't be THERE 2 weeks, just having leisurely trip there and back. BTW, I was a victim of my success last time - when I finally went to leave and pick up my prize for being last, my car battery was dead and I was all alone:) Fortunately I had one of those small car boosters with me.

I know you weren't wishing me bad fortune, just realistically assessing probabilities;)

Cheers!

Glen

Driving directions to Chilliwack
( 1 ) from the Sumas Border crossing, go East on Highway 1 to Exit 119B. Take this exit and you will cross over the freeway on Yale ( Vedder) road . At the second traffic light turn right onto Airport Rd. At the first traffic light, turn left onto Young Rd.

( 2 )_ follow young thru town, till you cross a little bridge. At the end of the bridge, turn right onto Hope River Road.
follow Hope River Road about 6 km. it will twist and turn, and it will become Kitchen road. You will cross a little creek and the road will come to a Tee. At the tee, turn left onto Ballam Rd., go about 200 yds. you will see a red barn on your right hand side. Turn right down the driveway by the barn and go past the 3 barns, and the riding ring, over the dyke, and you are here.

If you are coming west on highway 1, take the Young road exit. When you come to the end of the offramp, turn right onto Young road, then follow the directions from ( 2 ) onward.

Ron,
I was asked so I thought I would pass this question on. might help for the new people.
what is the saturday dinner agenda this year? price per person?
do you need to know in advance?
thanks

Saturday dinner depends entirely on the weather....bad weather no bbq, That and what the cook decides to make. she kinda sizes it up on the spot, and you will be expected to make the decision on whether you are going to pig ou.....I mean eat by around lunch time.... cost depends on what is on special at the fresh meat market at the time. ..cost has been 5.00 to Max 10.00 cdn per person, small kids no charge....
No Grant.... you are too big :-) See you at the field.

where is the Float flying place at? I'll be there Friday so I suppose I could get directions then. I wanna try out my hopefully to be float equipped Pietenpol there.

Ron
May 18, 2003, 11:24 AM
You will have to get directions and a key to the gate from here.
We keep the gate locked so that no one goes in with fuel planes,
Also it makes it more difficult for would be thieves to get away with our " rescue boat". on the other hand, the field is on a island, and if you are just going to do taxi tests, you could go across the road to the slough. If you want to actually test fly it, there must be 100 places within 5 minutes of here.

Paul, I've got the float location marked on the map on the previous page, a convoy usually heads over arround 9Am or so.

I'll be there Friday afternoon now, as I was able to get the day off work. Hopefully the weather will have calmed down by then.....

It seems like this event is mostly E-Helis and smallish park flyers. So how's the sailplane turnout at this event?

Fred Bronk
May 20, 2003, 05:19 PM
There will be anything there from WWII fighters, Helis, Funfly and everthing in between.

I have at least 2 40 size planes, and Rons are a tad bigger than that.;)

JDubman
May 20, 2003, 06:01 PM
Cool, So are you driving or flying Fred?

Ron
May 20, 2003, 08:03 PM
Actually, I'm sending down my DR1, and Fred's gonna fly up :-)

Brad Trent

JDubman:
There are usually a few warmliners and floaters at the meet, but no events for them, or for any other type of planes, for that matter:) . It's very much a "fly what ya brung" kind of get together, with every type of plane and heli that I've heard about represented. That's what makes it so interesting, the "cross-pollination" of ideas and interests. My fleet will include a GWS Beaver(with floats), Thunder Tiger Slow-Fly P-51 conversion, 48" S400 twin sports plane from Japan, and a 75" scratch built Fokker D VII. That kind of variety is common at Chilliwack. Lots of Parkies, aerobats, scale birds from all eras, helis, and powered gliders of various types. Come and see for yourself:D .
Brad.

Ron

JDubman.....
Largest plane to date.......120" Martin Mars Water Bomber.
Lots of 1/4 scale stuff too...Some 1/12 th scale stuff, which sounds small, till you realise that the plane being modelled has over 100 ft wing span :-)

I checked the fit of planes in the car. I will be bringing a Kabriolin, an Astro Hog and 1/4 scale Spacewalker. Whether the spacewalker flies depends on getting some help as it has only flown twice and I didn't do the takeoff or landing.

Whether the spacewalker flies depends on getting some help ......

David, have you never been to Chilliwack before?!?!

You will have to beat the 'help' off with a stick!

Did anyone take any pictures of this event. I remember last year some gourgeous ones as various planes were flying in for a landing with the mountains in the background.
