hey guys....

I am going to be ordering up in a couple weeks a new hacker 100 setup for a QQ 101" yak 54. I'm wanting to set it up for pretty hard 3D/aggressive aerobatic type stuff.

I don't know which one to get between these two motors. the specs are ....

Hacker A100-8 196KV 4.7 amps 0.013res

Hacker A100-10 150KV 4.0 amps 0.018res

i will be running any where from 8000mah - 10,000mah in a 12S ( 4 X 6S at 25c - 30C) packs.

That puts my voltage at 44.4V correct? If i multiply this by the KV i come up with these numbers.....

196KV X 44.4V = 8702 rpm

150KV X 44.4V = 6660 rpm

Without ever running one of these motors , or even seeing one run , i'm stuck on which one i should get. The 150KV motor ( A100-10) seems to be about the same rpms i would get out of a regular 100cc motor. The 196KV motor ( A100-8) at 8702rpms seems really high doesn't it?

I know those won't be my actual rpm numbers i'll be getting , but will the "lower" KV motor ( 150kv) give me more torque out of the hole ( better throttle response?) compared to the higher KV motor?

Not really sure about total weight of the yak as of yet , but i am thinking it will be some where between 24-26lbs....i think?

Any advice i can get from you guys would be great. Thank you.

I would imagine the higher Kv motor is for 12S and the lower Kv is for 14S. Maybe for 10S and 12S, I'm not well versed on Hacker specs.

Most packs won't hold nominal 3.7V/cell under load, just a hair less. Say 3.5 to 3.6V. And most motors turn from 80 to 90% of theoretical V x Kv under load.

I think Ben from 3DHS is running an A-100 something, I bet he'll know which one you need.

Thanks jeffrey. Yeah ben mentioned that i would be happy with the hacker 100 in this bird....i just wasn't sure which one. And now that you mention the nominal voltage of the packs under load , that brings that higher KV ( 196) back down to about a normal rpm range i think. I was looking at the package deal they have at Chief for $1199.00 with an masterspin 170 and a hacker A100-8. I'm thinking this may be the system Ben is using , but not quite sure. I'm not sure if he's tested it yet either. I know he mentioned he "was" going to test it....hopefully he'll chime in here. the batteries are gonna be a wallet smasher....but i'll be ready for that.

IMHO I would call Mike Donovan at Hacker, he knows what just about everyones set up's are. He is a great guy and a blast to talk to.

He loves to tell people what others are doing with their motors.

Thanks Dag. Do you have a website or phone # i can get a hold of him at? I don't remember seeing the name or any contact info for mike any where.

EDIT....never mind , i found it. I didn't know he posted here on the site.

I PM Mike a couple days ago , so hopefully he'll chime in here. Or someone anyways with some flight time on one of these beasts.

Hi Jeff,

We have built a few of those planes in the past, and have found them to come out a little heavier than your estimate. They usually end up around 30-32 pounds once completed, and we have found that our A150-8 motor powered using our MasterSpin 220 ESC and 14s Li-Poly Batteries with a capacity of around 10,000 mAh works extremely well on a Mejlik 27X12TH Propellor.

Please feel free to give us a call here at the office at (480) 726-7519 if you have any questions at all.

Thanks
Mike

Mike , are you sure we are talking about the same airplane here? I'm talking about the QQ 101" yak that is built around a DA-85. All up weight with that motor and everything else was in the 24-26lb range. This isn't the 102" version , even though they are basically the same aircraft. One guy did the build with a BME 110 and came in just slightly over 24lbs if i remember right.
