I haven't seen any mention of this here on the forums so here goes. Horizon Hobby is listing their 1.50 size Mustang and Jug as being available in mid July. This is good news for fans of these large warbirds that can be easily converted to E-Power. I have bought one of each in the last 6 months because I thought they were going to be discontinued for good. Not that the price is any better over what I paid either. But glad to see they are going to be available again. Both models fly quite well on the big Turnigy 80-100 motors on 10S or 12S with 100A ESC's and 22x10 props. The Jug with its big hatch converts really easy. I also like the plug in wings. The P-51 is doable too, you just have to cut your own hatch for the batteries and the large wing is one piece.

Unless they changed/improved the LG, I recommend getting some Sierras or Robarts from the get-go because the stock mechanical units are nothing but trouble.

Horizon shows to have them both in stock now.

The thing about these warbirds is that they both convert well to E-Power and really fly nicely! I have seen them both on 12S with Turnigy 80-100's and 100 amp ESC's. Very nice models. The P-47 is nice to haul around since the wings come off in two halves. They won't last long.

Why do they discontinue models that are popular?

Is it to make way for new models? The contracts are up at the china factory?
Mentioning discontinue ups the sales? The designs are outdated and can be majorly improved on?

Curious.

BrentP,

I guess sales were slow over all. Those 80-plus inch models get into the high dollar range where many cannot afford it. They sell many more of the 65 inch span models. Like their new P-51 for example.

I think the Landing Gear on them sucks too. Many complaints on them. I have already bought some Sierra retracts for my P47. Not even going to try the factory jobs. Already sold them in fact.

As far as the China factories, I suspect they would jump at the chance. Plenty of labor over there to keep busy.

I would like to be in on one of the meetings where they decide what to build or produce next. For the life of me, I cannot see their logic on some of the things they bring out.

Maybe more reasons for discontinuing, dunno.

Thanks for the reply LBJ. Care to mention some of those things you can't see logic in? For me, a scale guy, (ok really stand off scale..semi scale....LOL) it's the flood of 3d and such birds. But hey lots are into that so it's good for those fellows.

Great Hobbies (canadian mail order house) does have the P-51 in stock for those who care, but as you mention for some, myself included, it is too big an investment.

Cheers

Maybe I should have said something like; whatever they decide to sell is for their profit margin, first consideration. What the people like is second on their list. I mean, how many P-51's can you put out? There are PLENTY of good designs out there, but they keep coming bck to the old familiar ones. So, it's clearly about sales, not what we necessarily want. IMHO.

I guess I spent $600 on my H9 1.50 P-47 with shipping. $380 for Sierra retracts and accessories. $110 for Turnigy 100 Amp ESC. $160 for Turningy 80-100 motor. Haven't bought the servos yet, but count on $100 or more for those. So, $1400 isn't out of line for cost! I should have gottent o putting mine together, but had others ahead of it. Maybe this fall. They fly great.
Thought I'd post this since it's the highest I've seen in a while. Maybe ever. It was 110 degrees when I went for the camera. Taken at 7:45 PM.

Wow 100 bucks for servos, I have $150 on the retracts alone. I think just the servos on mine ran about $400. It has digitals thruout. Beat your temp here in Phoenix, today was 113.

I have an 80" wingspan Miss America that I bought used and am trying to figure out if it is a Hanger 9 model because part of the cowl is missing. Also I see here that everybody is recomending that the stock retracts be scraped. Any help would be appericated.

Thats the world models, I had the 46 sized. They were pretty much the same(except for the size) I can tell by the cowl slant where it covers the fuse. Actually are yo sure thats 80", I think the 80" had flaps.

Yep it is 80" by my tape measure. I was surprised it didn't have flaps also. I can't decide weather to get her in the air or send her down the road! It has a satio 180 already installed that appears to have never been started. I don't trust retracts on grass feilds so that is why I was wondering about the stock retracts.
