Hi all,
I broke out the new Hose Monster 100' 3 meter rig and set it up in half. It Is to long for our fenced field whole.
It was gusty but I launched the GL a few times. Its a good thing (thanks MS) that we built CF reinforced spars. :D
The launches were VERY zippy! I popped off the first two times. This really put the stress to the spar. No problemo
I found lift once but it was to fast for me to stay in for long. More thermal turn practice needed.
I did manage to set up the glider for better into the wind performance but I need a tune up on down wind handling! I landed off field once because I could not turn it back into the wind worth a hoot.

Sounds like a whole lotta bungie for a little glider...
I pull the 100 foot of 3M hosemonster back about 30 to 60 paces for my Bubble dancer depending on the wind but I only have about 250ft of line due to field constraints.
8-10mph breeze will see BD kite the whole 250ft of string PLUS the 100 foot of rubber into the air stretched tight giving a solid "ping"
All good fun :) :) Glad to hear your having fun too........

Sure its a LOT O PULL for a GL. But it is fun to get her going that fast. It is above my level of skill, but doin' it will soon change that. Or improve the repair skills...some more!
Actually we built the wings to be able to winch launch so this is not to much faster than winching. I lack experience to know but likely rather close I think so good practice and skill building. My elevator thumb needs to catch up though!
I am still very happy with the GL mods. I am sure it flys better than I can fly it. I have a four day weekend and a new pop up sun shade so I hope to get some thermal practice in over the 4th.

I launch a stock RTF Spirit at 14 pounds pull on my hi-start with no problems.
If you are trying to fly that GL in the wind, consider adding some ballast when the wind gets over 10 mph.

Hi Ed,
We did make some nice ballast plates out of some old lead. But I think we are to heavy. The weights run 80 to 108 grams or a little over three ounces.
I have played with one and two weights at a time. Half that might be better?
I am not sure what increments to start using.
Looks like great flying weather here this weekend!

Since planes are different weights, I usually talk in percentages.
I find that 5% ballast can make some differeence but you really don't get much effect till you get to about 10%. I have ballasted my Spirit at 15% with good results. I typically ballast my Supra at 15-20% and my AVA at 20 to 25%
Here is an article I did on the subject.
