I'm going to be using a set of Graupner metal spoilers in my current project (3M, built-up wings). I don't know how the 'customary' installation finishes the spoilers, are the mounting flanges and the top of the moving spoiler customarily capped with anything like balsa, thin plywood, ABS? Or are the spoilers installed out-of-the-box in their slots atop the covering edge at the opening? Is the moving spoiler's upper surface capped with something that is sanded down to blend in with the wing's upper surface? Are the mounting flanges also capped and sanded to conform with the wing?

Thanks very much.

I've seen them installed "naked" and finished as shown above. They will be effective as spoilers either way. As long as they retract flush against the skin, the rest is just aesthetics..

Beautiful.

Those things look heavy. I have seen them used on scale ships for accuracy but never on a built up ship. Wouldn't flat plate balsa spoilers be much lighter?

Not being critical, just looking to learn something.
