View Full Version : Rant Too hot to go outside!

It is 3:00PM PDT, and 104°F outside. Too hot for man or beast.
When you east coasters get snowed in during the winter and have nothing to do but build, that is the same thing we southwest coasters have to do in the summer time when it is so blazing hot outside. Can't have any fun in this kind of heat. :censored:

Been nice here for a change. Last couple of days have been only in te 80's with showers here and there. Still muggy though.
I remember living on the Cape when I was a kid. 75 was average and 80 was getting downright uncomfortable. 90 was a heat wave and people in Boston headed for the shore any way they could get there. Rain and fog was a given most days and I didn't know what the sun was till we moved to Florida. Ha! To this day I love good solid rainy days with clouds all over. If it's cold then that is so much better. Pete

I just spent three days in St John Arizona, tha job started a 4 am and ended every day at around 11 pm, average temps during work was 105, outside labor.
It feels good to be back home, at a sweet 90.
I have to go back on Wednesday, for 2 days, clean up, 120 plus in the sun, I am glad that job is over. It was a kluster f.

It is 30*c at 7am here and midday has been 41+*c (110+*f).
But it is dry on the central plains of China, with humidity rarely getting over 50%, and so with a nice breeze it is lovely.
But in Shanghai, with humidity at 90-99% anything over 35* is not nice. Over 40* is unbearable.

The Spaniards were into Green Design way ahead of their time... They were dealing with scare resources and labor and built accordingly. Adobe, very high thermal mass so cool in the day, warm at night and comparatively very hard to burn

The Elizabethan's were part way there with the 'Cod-piece'... all we need now is the air conditioned version to give us the air conditioned trousers.. and the design is to be known as the 'Koolergoolie' and is to be marketed by Ronco...
I could even make it environmentally friendly by running it on methane..

on Monday, July 13...
1" of rain in 30 minutes
45 mph winds, gusting to 60
pea size hail battering the house and lawn, hitting hard enough that well over 100 water fowl were killed or maimed in a pond only a couple miles south of where i live.
wind blowing over trees, not just little trees, but big 3' diameter elm trees. electricity out for hours
today's high is only going to be around 70, current temp is only 57
