Hey guys (particularly you scratch builders),

I thought I'd post some pics of a Bud Elder V-Mount that I needed to modify for an odd-sized boom on a 2M scratch build project I have going.

The CF boom I'm using has a 3/4inch O.D. at the point where I needed to attach the V-Mount. I contacted Bud, and he told me his mounts are made for either a 0.625 or a 1inch O.D. boom. I decided to have him send me the smaller 0.625inch V-Mount (although I think this same method would have just as easily worked with the 1inch V-Mount). Check out the pics below, they're fairly self-explanatory. After splitting the V with a Dremel, I used a bit of CF tow to hold things in place. A bit of 3oz. FG cloth to clean it up, and then wrapped with Kevlar tow once it was epoxied to the boom.

Good idea. I ended up doing something silimar a while back. I had a 2m mount from Kennedy Composites & wanted to put it on a 2.5m Art Hobby Evolution. The boom was way too big of a diameter for the mount so it was no where close to fitting. I ended up cutting off the bottom of the mount, splitting the top of the mount's mounting radius in half, drilling some holes & using Spectra to tighten it down. Works great & feels incredibly strong.

I like that! Does Bud Elder have a web site to order parts from? John

I style mine after the Allegro's plans, but laminate soda can aluminum together and cut with scissors.

I was able to find an email address for him in another thread. Here is the link:
