I am relatively new to rc helis. I have a Trex 450XL and a Blade CX2 in a Jet Ranger fuselage. I am particularly interested in scale models and flying. I would like to see this gallery posted full of pictures and videos of helis with scale fuselages either static or in flight, gas or electric powered, any size, yours or not yours . Please include any information you may have about what is in the photo/video. Here's my little CX2 in Jet Ranger fuse for starters.

Thanks :D

Here's my finest ( currently ). A week ago I thought I lost a srew in there. After one hour unsuccessful searching I figured out, it was still on the screw driver. Now the inside doesn't look so nice any more - I had to disassemble it during the search. Oh well .. 2 or 3 hours work and it's ready to fly again - then using Jeti 2,4 Ghz instead of the 35 MHz receiver.

Here is my recent UH-1M. It was recently bring out from storage room and project of rebuilding it has just begun. Still incomplete while this photo was taken.

Tail antenna looks a bit too long. Should have cut it shorter.
Landing skids too high. Need to make it lower.
More decal is required.

I have the landing skid "T" joiner if you build the landing gear again .it is for 6 mm tube .

Thanks.. I think I no need to build another landing skids. I can just heat it and bend it. Originally the skids is much much lower. I make the landing skids higher (heat and bend) but didn't realize I over bend it till it become too high before the photo was taken.

Here's my T-Rex 450 in an Align MD500 fuse. After months of gathering dust, I took the plunge and mounted the fuse yesterday evening. After the initial shake down I managed four flights before dusk. The MD500 looks so much cooler than the pod and boom.
A couple of photos for now until I can get some video.

Well, here's my T-Rex 450x in her new attire. I hovered it around in the front yard and up and down the street. Turns out the tail boom on the 450x is a little shorter than the 450XL so I had to modify the fuselage slightly to fit. Next time it needs maintenance I'll change out the tail boom and drive belt so that it fits better. I hope to get some video of it in action tomorrow.

Yup, they recreate the scale heli with such good detail and then pick a silly toy like paint scheme. I am sure someone in walkera's paint dept suffers from color blindness. By the way, the Q is actually a AH-1J Sea cobra, the precursor to the supercobra - a bit of trivia i learnt from this project.

Hi Fabien... I'm interested in the UH-1 for 450, EC145 and Blackhawk. According to the website, it is available but the website also stated it is for Trade only. If it is available for public now, is it possible u post a new thread so all of us who are interested can buy :)

Should probably change my handle to "MD500 fan"...

TRex 450SE V2 (all stock with ghetto servos and tail gyro)
Align MD500E fuse with a bunch of extra scale bits stuck on: Cargo rack, cargo hook, ground handling wheels, window sliders, additional window framing and "surfboard" on the doghouse replicating an MD500-369. Includes all appropriate lights that are actually part of a lipo alarm. Had a lot of problems with the 5 blade head eventually resulting in the swash separating itself from itself...no damage to the fuse...back to the 2-blade rotor for now.

http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p232/daniel_reese/T%20Rex/PH2d.jpg

TRex 450SE V1 (all stock with ghetto servos and tail gyro...is there a trend?)
Darthdark Bell 222 fuse built up as the 222UTE (uses regular skids instead of retractable wheels)
http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p232/daniel_reese/T%20Rex/HPIM1807.jpg

TRex 600E (all stock with futaba cheapo servos, 211gyro)
TT MD500E fuse. "V1" All stock. This was my first 600 scale project.
http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p232/daniel_reese/T%20Rex/CIMG0594.jpg

Same mechanics and fuse but after I had my way with them; all the proper ights, made from an upscaled version of the 450's lipo alarm. Also had on-board video and telemetry (altimeter, airspeed, rpm and battery voltage)
http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p232/daniel_reese/T%20Rex/HPIM1397.jpg
http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p232/daniel_reese/T%20Rex/HPIM1542.jpg

Unfortunately, flying by video has it's hazards...
http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p232/daniel_reese/T%20Rex/4.jpg

"V2" Same mechanics, new fuse...look familiar? Another TT MD500E- began life as their civilian MD530. After I got done with it, it had functional engine doors, reversed main rotor and flipped tail rotor- no onboard video
http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p232/daniel_reese/T%20Rex/HPIM2315.jpg
http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p232/daniel_reese/6.jpg

Unfortunately, flying over tall prairie fields has hazards too...
http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p232/daniel_reese/7.jpg

"V3" Same mechanics, will include a 5-blade main rotor and 4-blade tail rotor. Using a FunKey (rebranded Align) MD500E fuse this time. This one has a totally tricked out detailed cockpit and an "animated" pilot- he moves with the controls! More gee-whiz stuff on the way for this project.

Thank Boyd

The main rotor head is a combination of:
hub, swash and swash plate follower is from Heliartist.
blade grips from TRex600 tail rotor grip
flapping damper is from Mini-Titan

As usual, the original color of the hub is aluminium silver. I paint it with "Matt Black" color

Going to paint the tail blade grip with Matt Black as well.

EDIT: Oh.. the black color washout mixer plastic thing below the hub is just for balancer. Due to HeliArtist only come with one swash plate follower arm, it tend to cause unbalance in the hub during spinning. Thus, I add some weight in opposite direction to the follower arm in order to counter balance it.

Looks good.

How is the performance on it?

I painted the head on mine previously but since its AL, the paint always ends up coming off due to use so I don't paint it anymore. I was considered anodizing it in black but I haven't done it as of yet.

Heliartist hub is nice and drilled straight, but its very weak and if you have any misshaps, its basically gone. Lightning heli hub is improperly drilled but it is tough as nails and with some help of a machinist can be fixed perfect. JMO.

So far so good.. Minor vibrations..but that I suspect is because my blades not good.

As for painting, I use normal brush and tamiya paint to paint the hub. The paint ca easily came off. For the hub, I use tamiya spray paint. After the Matt Black, I also spray a few layers of Tamiya clear paint.

Maybe u can try spray Tamiya clear paint 1st on the hub, then spray paint whatever paint u want. After that, spray clear paint again. That should protect the paint from coming off.

...How is the tail holding?

The tail is holding good since I modify the tail to spin 6.5x (or 6x..can't remember) during the last few flights in MD500E...before I move the heli into this fuselage (AH-6)

By having 6.5x tail speed, my main rotor can go low RPM. I think I set my Castle Creations governor to be around 1650rpm

I've had a variety of scale heli's in the past, but here are some pics of my current ones,

The MD500D is my latest model and I have just finished a cockpit for it. I am hoping to enter it in the UK nationals at the end of August. My old club held a fly-in to commemorate 100yrs of the first powered flight in the UK and a visiting pilot took some video,

Version A of the MB-6 had a 6.9 tail ratio using the two blade tail rotor but the belt didn't like it when pushing hard collective maneuvers and crosswinds.

BTW, I fly mine at 1500 RPM for normal mode, 1650 for idle up 1 and 1770 for idle up 2.

That Sea Ranger is AWESOME!!

You all are probably tired of seeing my Jet Ranger, but I just got some great in flight shots taken by a fellow pilot who also does photography. :D

Best source for 450 size fiberglass fuselages are:
US = HeliDirect.com
Hong Kong = Flying-Hobby.com, SmartModel.com.hk,

Thought I'd throw in some of my toys...

First is a Helibody JetRanger. Nothing special but a bargain basement marvel using a $59 CX450, $7 cyclic servos, $22 gyro, thrown away micro tail servo (T250 kit servo), and some sort of hobbycity motor and esc.

Next is a Trex 250 with the Align 500E body. Left tail rotor mod, tail servo relocation to next to the motor, and a Scorpion 3900kv motor to handle the weight much better. Next mod is a move to some 1300mah batteries which should work just fine CG wise and increase flight times...awaiting the battery arrival to see how that works out.

Looking good!

I noticed that you fly thumbs!
Your flight control could benefit from adopting the "Pinch" style.
By supporting the gimble with you fore finger, will give you much more precise control of your helicopter. (It's not actually pinching. It is more of a support)

Also about 35% expo on the Ail, Elv, Rud and 75% dual rate on the rudder will smooth out the controls for better scale look.

IMO, I'd say fly however you feel more comfortable with, and to clarify pinch vs. thumbs... well, lets say that Bert Kammerer, amongst other top rated heli pilots that fly locally they all fly thumbs. I also haven't had a problem flying thumbs myself with lack of control.

Great job, i love these helis. This squadron is based just down the road from me at RNAS Culdrose, largest heli base in Europe. We also had the RAF seakings ( yellow ones) here aswell until they moved up country earlier this year. Father worked on them for until he retired from RAF. Is there any easy way to tilt the main rotor forward slightly, just doesnt quite look right with a horizontal rotor head. Congrats on a great model again. By the way, were can I get these kits on this side of the 'pond'.

Thanks for all the nice comments, but the scale detailing is still on going !
I would like to tilt the rotor forward more, but the tail boom is the limiting factor on this model, it is already at the top of the rear fuselage. Maybe on the bigger one, we can ??
