Interesting new geared turbofan proposal from P&W. Slightly off topic for us modellers I guess but some may find it interesting as another example of all the ways in which the gap between 'classic' propeller propulsion and pure jet propulsion are gradually being filled in.

Not sure if you are aware, but there are some small GTF engines that are used in bizjets. I used to work at AlliedSignal Engines ... now Honeywell ... and their "TFE-731" series of engines are all GTF.

On a bugger engine it is obviously a bigger deal due to the forces involved, so it will be interesting to see how the P&W engine works out.

Well, there you are, I learned something new. I had no idea that the TFE731 was geared. And that such a widely deployed and long-serving engine, too. Thanks for the point of information!
