The Xfoil code behind Profili is several years old. It used to be a common criticism that Xfoil was a bit optimistic about cdmin and clmax but everybody who uses this kind of software should know that the 2D numbers have to be adjusted down for the 3D anyway so it's not really a big deal.
I’ve had the base version of Profili for a while and like it for the easy interface but it shields the user from Xfoil too much so I got XFLR5 a few days ago. It’s not so easy to use but it looks very promising. After only a few hours I've already drawn a wing, got polars for some custom airfoils I’ve been working on in Xfoil/Profili intermittently since last summer and smoothed one of them. All that and I haven’t read the manual yet, that‘s good interface design! Thanks, Mark Drella.

I've just downloaded it and installed it for my Ubuntu 9.04 via Wine.
It seems to work OK.
Maybe I won't have to restart the computer to Vista when I want to use Profili
i'm getting closer to dumping Windows altogether and I like the feeling.:D

Sure wish we had a Group list sticky on XFLR5, so many questions. Not vs Profili just a user thread and Modeling Science seems like to be the place to have it.
Seems more people are just discovering it.
I have the basics down but when something doesn't go as planned it would be nice to have more activity than the SourceForge group. Andre is most helpful but I don't want to tie him up with lower level beginner questions.
I really really like messing with this, it sure can spit out a lot of info. As one of the tutorials said, you need to know what to ask for to get your answers. Around here many just share what they are up to, it's a good way to learn as you go.
So, just loving this thing and still fumbling around in the dark somewhat.

Dan

Look up fraps.com, that should probably work.
mmmm I have that already, forgot all about it.
Tks
Dan
EDIT - Well Fraps works but.... F9 is start/stop in Fraps and that also switches screens to polars in XFLR5. :- ) It is a bit choppy as well, I will just have to read how else to start/stop. Not bad for a first go.
