Could anybody please advise me on which system will deliver the most static thrust, EDF or open propeller for lifting a vtol for lift off ? Any help will be much appreciated.

EDF are good at acelerating air to high speed, not at giving static thrust. Propellers work better for static thrust, and a large slow propeller will work better than a small fast one. The problem is that the best propeller for vertical takeoff might not be able to provide enough speed for conventional flight...
