If you're referring to the BBv2, then yes, it is a decent upgrade from the stock motor, and a good value given the low price. Having said that, bearings and lipos give you the greatest performance improvements. One thing about the BBv2 is that you have to be a little careful with the throttle or you may cause the ESC to thermal out.

do i just buy a set of bearings and put them on between the wheel and the axle or is there more involved ?

The front ones just go in the wheels. The back ones take a little more effort since they're in bearing carriers but again, no big deal, pretty much just drop the arm pins and you're good to go. Before you do it, spin the front wheels so you can compare the difference with bearings.

don't get the bb or bbv2 both will do little but make you ask yourself why did I just spend 12 dollars. In order of performance then cost

1) get threaded axles - improves frustration
2) get bearings - cheaply improves speed
3) get the small lipo/charger - cheaply improves speed
4) get bigger/smaller spur gear - cheaply customs performance
5) get shocks - greatly improves performance
5) get the big lipo/charger - greatly improves speed
6) go bl 10250! why go 8750? - best speed/performance improvement

This is how I would do a hop up "order of importance" for the micro t/dt/ram

I might get the small lipo before the bearings (if I didn't already have em') because its faster, but a more expensive option.
