Other than anchors or flight simulator boxes has anyone found a use for the non narrow band radio sets ??? It seems a shame to trash a functional radio because of some ruling or what not. surely someone could modify one for some other useful purpose.

Even the components could be used for something!???....wishful thinking?? WHAT DO YOU THINK?

If you come up with a use for the old radios other than a buddy box, let me know. We could be rich. :D

If it has a PPM signal in it anywhere, it can become a 2.4g radio trivially, or may be able to be narrow-banded by someone like Radio South. If you are a HAM operator, you can gut the whole thing and put in MicroStar2000 guts and have a nice computer radio as well.

Lotsa life in this stuff if you have the skills . . . .

One could convert them to 2.4ghz using the TX module from a inexpensive TX-RX set. But the new TX's work pretty good, so good it may not be worth the effort to convert the old TX over. Just use the new radios instead.
One can also take all the electronics out of the new TX and rewire the old radio TX to use it. 4 channel 2.4 ghz radios are selling for about $30.00 including a receiver.

Now the single stick radio people still use their single stick transmitters. So the conversions are pretty popular.

The suggestions so far sound good but how about other uses, I saw a article of trans. converted for controline useage the sticks were wired to control stepping motors etc. etc.

does anyone have old articles of uses for old radios. even using rec. circuit boards for battery isolators. maybe if our resources are pooled together some ideas will pop up.

I am not a electronics person but I can solder and understand enough to do changes and such.

FYI, old Futaba 4ch TX have "made in Japan" stamp. High quality POTs in them.
