I have an old Great Planes Stinger electric sport boat. It is not anything fancy, but I would like to get it up and running for the summer lake activities. The mechanical speed control no longer works on it and I would like to get a new electronic one. The boat uses two inline 540 sized brushed motors and is powered by two stick packs. The boat was a lot of fun 15 years ago and I would like my son and nephews to be able to enjoy it as well. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Derek

Derek,

I have used the Pro Boat ESC with goot results, check it out ( http://www.proboatmodels.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=PRB2314 ) and if looks like it will work you can have your local hobby shop order it from Horizon Hobby Distributors. Many ESC's will work but try and get one that is water tight or sealed. Putting a speed controler in a balloon may not work as the heat sink gets hot it may melt the balloon letting water get to the ESC and short it out and once that happens it will be dead.

Andre :)

hi there, sounds like you need something with some serious amps. one possibility working on 10 cells, is the PROBOAT tornado 50. you may find that your current voltage is way higher than that, so Y-lead the batteries so they run parrallel, (14 cells 3300mah becomes 7 cells 6600mah). its good for 50 amps

Thanks, I am going to look at my boat to see how it is currently wired. Traxxas uses the EVX-2 in their newest twin motor boat. I could use that I suppose. Pro boat seems very cost efficient as I am not looking to drop a huge amount of money on this. I spend too much on my helis, cars, and airplanes.

Thanks again!

Yeah, I'm not afraid of rewiring. I do this plenty on my other RC's. I just haven't peered inside the old thing in a while.
