Today was great fun out at Sprekles lake in S.F. I showed up with my CG lifeboat in hand expecting to be a wall flower for the entire event. Instead, I was immediately snagged by Lee (screen name unknown :o ) and a boat and radio shoved into my hands. After about 5 minutes of studying the course layout, my name was called and I was off to the races! There were two courses, a navigation and barge pushing course. I think I did pretty well as I never touched a single bouy or obstacle on either course.
I don't have a list of who won what, but I do know that Ralph (Toesup) and Ms "Hazard to Navigation" Toes took first and second in the Super Springer class.
I would guess about 30 folks were there with about 20 or so boats of various types (mostly Springer tugs).
Afterward, Bernard (Aerominded) put our sailboats in the water for a little sheet-flapping. Bernard with his Soling and me with my Nirvana. Both boats have very similar sailing charactoristics. Richard (Habanero) was unable to sail his Nirvana because of radio frequency interference problems.
Anyway, here a a few pictures from today's event. We didn't get any pics of the other boats as our camera battery died  I'm hoping someone else here got more pictures they can post!
oh, and I got 5th place for my first time at the stick of a springer :D

Congrat's Haba! Thanks it was cool because I had never even hooked that tug to a barge before. Course it would have been just as fun if I had come in last place- I'm hooked now.

One bummer today- a lady on a bike zeroed in on my brand new Gianhien mahogany and over it went!
Damage could have been worse I guess it's just kinda like that new car first dent. :censored:

She was very apologetic. I ran it and it threw a set screw she asked if it was her fault etc. Accidents happen I told her.

That's very gracious of you...
I brought my boats into my sisters house, and they weren't sitting
for five minutes before my 5yo nephew had yanked one of my
fire monitors off the boat... I asked if he had permission to touch the
boat, And he sheepishly answered "no....". He knew he had done a bad
thing... and was really embarrassed.
In Portland, the local club would probably have lynched them both... :o

You came 3rd at your first attempt!????:eek::eek:
Well done that man!!.. excellent!...
A great day was had by all, plenty of .. 'friendly'.. banter between the Captains and some entertaining... 'steerage'.. from some of the competitors...
I'm lead to believe that Mr Aero came 2nd AND 1st in the non Springer class (those pointy bow thingies)...
Mrs (Menace to Navigation) Toes came in 2nd in Super Springer, Mr Toes 1st in Super Springer (only two competitors... :o )
In the 'classic' Springer class, Mr Toes took first place... and i think Mr Habanero came in a creditable 3rd...
Mr Aero won the tugboat race (Impromptu)....
Once again, a wonderful 'fun' event organized by the SFMYC..
Just a few pics from todays event...

Absentaerominded strikes again... I forgot to bring my camera today so I can't contribute... :o
Bikes... I didn't hear about that, Hab... we really need to start setting up the ropes again, lake side.

I didn't see any video cameras yesterday, not even very many still cameras. The contraption was interesting, there are so many moving parts that you just can't take it all in.

It seems all the 'regulars' that attended this event are notorious for either forgetting their cameras or not using them once at the venue. :p

Well I have the finishing positions of everybody so will publish for edification. My camera is my last thought on contest day as want to see and talk to everyone on the lakeside to catchup on what has happened since the last time I saw them, and that ois why pics are unusual from me.
Classic Springer
1st Ralph King Tigger (Toesup)
2nd Bob Pearsall Rooster
3rd Til Mossi Errant Wind
4th Larry Olson Salley Ann
5th Vince Hoffman Sylvester (Vince Hoffman)
6th Luis V Tylers Boat
7th Lee Duvall Hammer of Thor (CaptLee)
8th Lin Kings Templeton
9th B. Price CTC Springer (Aerominded)
Non-Springer Class
1st B. Price EightBall (Aerominded)
2nd B.Price CT Doggett " "
3rd R. Johnson Midwest Harbor (Habanero)
4th L. Olson Kathy K
5th B. Heacock Big Red
Super Springer Class
1st R. Kings Scoot (Toesup)
2nd L. Kings Mustang Sally (Mrs. Toes)
And two of the classic entrants had never even run a barge before. Between 1st and 7th place there was a 6 point difference with two ties in points. Course needs to be tougher I guess to get a little spread on points.

Toes ...The TBW showed up with the first Springers at Hansen Dam, so you would have to include yourself in our numbers, even if as a "Special Guest Villiain", as in the old Batman series.
