hi, i have a electric speed boat, the radio gear is sealed, think its made in china, is there any way of reducing the speed by attaching something to the + / - on the motor wires? also could it be made to control a switch when down/back on the control is pushed?

thanks

A resistor will calm it down, adding extra control is a bigger problem. The simplest and most reliable way is to completely replace the electronic package with a "real" one. It might also be the cheapest way, even if it costs more than the original boat.

First you need to know the value. Measure the current the motor takes using your trusty multimeter. Measure the voltage across it. The resistance = volts/amps. Power is Current X Voltage.
To halve the speed, you need half the power. A resistor about half the motor resistance will be about right. Power rating of the resistor needs to be the result of the new voltage across the resistor and the current through it, plus 50% for safety, then the next rating above that.

A simple way would be to use a battery pack with 1 or 2 less cells in it, providing the electronics will still run.
