Alright! So I'm getting a second glider, a SIG Riser, to join my Fling and I have a few questions.

1. I read that the wing joiners need reinforcing. Should I just sand it down a bit then epoxy fiberglass tape on it?

2. Battery--4 or 5 cell?
700mA or 1000mA?---(that's what I have right now.. I'd rather use
those but if push comes to shove I can buy
some new ones :D)

3. Servos--AHH which ones?!

Thanks!!

I presume you mean the Riser 2m.. ive built a couple of these and havent had a problem with the joiners, just make sure you epoxy them well.
a bit of fibreglass cloth epoxied around the centre section is a good.
my first Riser ( my first r/c model) took a lot of abuse and was eventually sold about a year after learning to fly. the wing takes a bit of building with the cap strips but its quite a strong wing. Ive almost finished scratch building another.
a 4.8 volt nicad or nimh packs fine at around 600 - 700 mahr ( thats probally good for about 3 hours flying) and I used std servos though nothing wrong with using any of the micro's . ( 9gm HXT900 s are good, ive got them in a few of my planes and have had no trouble with them,..)

cheers Grant.

Thanks a lot Grant! I'm thinking HS-65's for servos.

Forgot.. I'm also gonna go with the 4.8v 1000mah for now because I'll probably be doing a lot more maneuvering than an average thermal pilot, being a newbie and all, I'll want to keep it close. I can always get a new battery :D

Hs 65 's from what ive heard are good servos.. and by all means if you have 1000 mahr batteries use them. just make sure the finished model balances slightly nose heavy when held at the spar... ( to start with, can be moved back slightly later when trimmed and you get the feel of it..) they always need a little bit of lead in the nose to balance, especially with micro servos.
They fly very well and respond to lift well when set up right..

Alright thanks!! I cant decide between 6,0v 700mah or 4.8v 1100mah (1100 not 1000..my mistake) they should weigh about the same and i figure lead is a waste of usable space so I may aswell amp up the battery.

Thanks for the help Grant!!

The 700mAh pack will give you less than half the duration of the 1100 pack, because the servos draw more current at the higher voltage. That gives you way more chance of a flyaway. The only advantage would be a faster servo speed, which I think would be of dubious worth on a model like a Riser anyway.

So my vote's with the 4 cell pack, and I'm with Grant on the HXT900 servos. They are fantastic value.

Alright I'll look into those servos. 1100mah 4.8v it is!
