I was planning a trip up to Two harbors next month to tour the Edna G. I've adjusted my schedule to make a stop in Edina and check out the event. I'll put fresh batteries in the digital camera.

The run from 2 Harbors to Edina is more than a Hope skip and a jump - this is a 2-3 hour drive. Besides you will want to get into the railroad museum that is where the well was for the Edna G. - their is also a fish tug the Crusader at two harbor light - and if you are at 2 harbors you may what to do a trip up to Split Rock Light house - the is proably the best preserved light house I have seen because all the original workings are there. Don't forget Daluth (misspelled) There are a bunch or restored ships there. To really do this total trip right you need a week end and a place to stay over night.

Yea I did this in 2003 while being on a work assigment - Oh by the way - the guys at EMYC - Top notch they really made me fell at home every time I dropped by one of the 3 lakes.

Happiness,
Rich

rlboats2003, yea, I ran the route on Streets & Tripsso I have the travel times down. I expect to hit Edina about 10am on Sunday morning and spend the better part of the day. I'll bug out in time to run up to Duluth and stay over night there. Plan is to see the Edna G and local stuff on Monday then maybe spend another day in Duluth to see the Lake Superior RR Museum. I have been on the Irvin, Meteor and to the USACE museum before. My trip back I want to visit the Ashland/Bayfield area as I have never been there. May hit a museum or two on the way back down to Milwaukee.

I will probably slip away from the Parade of Boats to run over to the Fort Snelling gift shop. They had a really neat map of the US in the 1830's the time I visited. I want to get one for the West Allis Historical Society. A few years ago an old log schoolhouse was erected on the property where the original school was back in the 1800's. I thought the map would fit right in.

this just in!!!

a few modelers from across town have asked to have a table to show
some of the stuff they do as true scale static models of ships and stuff
Kinda like scale rail-roaders without the rails so in this case it really is static
or maybe just stuck....hehe haha hoho I just slay me....

Not a bad idea. Our club used to do a mall shows and a maritime festival and we had a couple of static modelers in our club. Those events were where the static guys shined as us R/C guys were on the water running they were always at the tables answering questions and standing watch. It also showcases another facet of the hobby.

If the club has space and tables give it a try. Two of the four of guys in the pictures below go both ways (R/C and static).

Yea I used to look all over for mall shows and the like
of the rather rare modeling exhibits ...they / no one seems to do that any more

The mall we used to go to, Brookfield Square, stopped doing them must be 15 years ago. The last one we did the manager didn't want to do it but he was instructed to from the higher ups. The lieutenant of security told us that our weekend had the second highest estimated attendance behind Thanksgiving weekend. I got my first real opportunity to talk to club members and learn about the hobby at Brookfield Square. Now malls would rather rent kiosks to sunglass vendors and cell phone outfits.

that would explain it .....too bad I liked seeing what others came up with
and not a lot of clubs really do an openhouse either
You can always seem to get into a meeting (thanks all clubs )
but its not the same as a show n tell

Here is a pic of the "lack of a crowd", also very few boats on display in the building compared to years past, there just are not many "builders" left in the club. I understand membership has fallen to about 75, from a high of several hundred just a few years back.
