Hi,
I have a 5/16 shaft set on two bearings 5/16x1" inside 1" PVC tube.
One side of the tube will be exposed to water.
I'm trying to figure out what options do I have in order to make this tube watertight and protect bearings as well?
Mechanical seals, O-rings?
Thnx

1) Sealed bearings
2) Fill the tube with oil

I'd go with a mechanical type radial wave seal. Check with your local bearing supply, Chicago Rawhide has a large inventory of seals.

Look for cup or lip seals. You may need to machine some sort of holder for the seal.

They have a great website but I can not locate mechanical seal with 5/16th bore :(

Do You think these seals will work with water? I thought they are ment to work with oil/grease etc.

A $2 cable gland (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=24611&C=SO&U=strat15) that will do to quite a depth of water.
