i have a pickup and tubing

the esc has a heat sink, if i use thermal paste to glue the brass tubing to the heat sink, will it provide watercooling ?

would the method described work ?

also would it work for watercooling a brushless motor ?

i used jb weld on mine and just put a dab on each end of the brass tubing so as not to interfere with the brass contact with the cooling fins on the esc. while probably not as good as a designed water cooled esc this does work and helps lower operating temps. on my brushless motor i bought an aluminum cooling jacket for about $16.

Thermal paste is not glue. It just assures thermal contact between two surfaces that are otherwise clamped together. A thick layer will act as an insulator and create more trouble than it cures. All the stuff does is conduct heat better than air, so a VERY thin smear replaces the trapped air between the surfaces caused by microscopic unevenness that results from machineing and improves contact.
There are metal - loaded epoxies available that are electrically conductive. They MIGHT conduct heat, as well.

On one of my Esc the heat sink was removable. I took it off and drilled two holes through it to fit 1/8" copper tube. This worked great no more cooked Esc.

Gerald.

You can mix aluminum powder with 2-part epoxy and bond it together.

Hi Morton,

If you have a steady hand and some 6mm aluminum strip, a home made watercooler for your ESC, like the one in the picture, is more effective.
