hey folks, got a few more questions for ya'

first, i'm building a huge boat with room to play so about cooling, i
know water cooling is the norm but i have the room so what about
chilling the water. i was thinking of running the water through an "ice
to water inter-cooler" that should give me ice water running around the
motor...better run times or what?

ok i'm cheap...i got a motor(540 size) from a bissel hand steam vac
thing, it was used to run the fan so doesn't have that much torque but
should be good for run times...maybe a gear reduction? i will have room
for two large batteries (two six volts or maybe two twelve volts)
whatcha think?

finnaly about props... i want the fastest (within reason) tanker in
town, what size prop (scale style 3 or 4 blade) should i use and will
the above motor be enough? the ship will weigh 40 Lbs empty and 100Lbs
fully loaded with cargo.

i really appreciate the input

I run several approx. 6' warships at scale speeds, using 540 motors,
and have NEVER had to resort to water cooling. You're not running
high speed, so if you have to do any cooling at all, there's something
seriously wrong with your setup. My ships run all day (literally - I
have NO IDEA how much runtime I get, because I've never used it up)
at scale warship speeds (considerably faster than a tanker) on a 6V
12AH battery. I use Mabuchi RS-540 motors, purchased new (surplus)
for about $3.95 each.

Water-cooling may be the "norm" for speedboats, but for scale ships
you should NEVER have to use it.

Props: What does the 1:1 prototype use, in terms of diameter & blade
count, not to mention how many? I'd start there. Get the shallowest
pitch you can so that the motor(s) run at their "happy" speed with
minimal load.
