I built this tissue airplane that is both stable and efficient.

Here's the plans:
Plans to build stable free flight aircraft (http://www.rubber-power.com/About.htm)

Here's a flying demo to see what it looks like:
Short Squirrel flight outdoor (http://www.rubber-power.com/How-to-fly-a-rubber-band-powered-airplane.htm)

Here's the question. In the design you build the wing on top of the tissue so the leading edge is exposed above the tissue.

It's a little counter intuitive but it turns out to work better.

Is this because of constructive turbulence?

There is be a good argument that the exposed framework on the leading edge of the upper wing surface acts at a turbulator: http://www.mh-aerotools.de/airfoils/turbulat.htm

That's what I though.

What a great article. Is that yours? I just added a link to it at the education section of the site:

Model Airplanes and Education (http://www.rubber-power.com/Education.htm)

This is what I've been thinking but I wanted to get some more opinion on it.

You might find it interesting to go through the insect wing part of this book preview on Google.
