I've been asked many times to "Give me an example!" of how I can use my UA in my community, and I've had speak in generalities simply because of the agency involved or the sensitivity of the cases we work on. Yesterday we participated in an exercise that I can give complete and full disclosure on, because it was just an "exercise". It was great fun and everyone learned a great deal from the effort. It was in full compliance of the FAA's "for pay? - no play!" rule, further to that, we were under NIMS protocols and actually used the suggested hierarchy the FAA has suggested would be acceptable! We were no where near any airport and were in Class G airspace to boot.

There's not nearly enough detail in there as it is intended as a "management summary" kind of thing, but you guys that are out there in the biz can read between the lines. This is a way you can become involved in a POSITIVE way with your UA and if you can comply with some standards be a highly POSITIVE contributor to your local agencies.

If you have any interest in promoting UA use in the NAS, then I highly recommend you download this PDF and show it agencies that could benefit from these services. It CAN be done, and it CAN BE DONE SAFELY!

Thought I'd show a couple of pics of the day. The "aircraft" that was down was easy to see from the air, but hard from the ground. It's deceptive, but it's in the bottom of a deep ravine. There's a "Resuci-Andy" laying next to it.

We can see the plane in the in the trees..

"CERT Air One encountered rotor turbulence over a ridge to the east of the IC and made an unscheduled landing"

LOL Unscheduled landing is that the new word for a crash...

Good work keep it coming.

Cool Stuff! Glad to see some more postings of "good uses" of a UAV. I'm dissapointed that I missed this one!

hehehee... you caught that, did you Mick? Of course! In the spirit of the rising political correctness I think it was entirely appropriate!

But it was just basically a flop onto the ground. Like the old flying question goes....

"What do pilots call a crash you can walk away from?"

A landing
:o

This might be useful in the disaster management field.

Kudos to you. I get sick of seeing UAVs used for military purposes and killing things all the time. More people like you and the population will have a friendlier and closer to home feeling about UAV and AUAVs.

Thanks Nimski,

We have closed some very painful, but necessary chapters in several families lives. It is unfortunate, but it is significantly better than
not knowing what happened at all.
