I have received all the parts to the F-5E that the fan blew up on....Until today everything was running good ! Now I find the BEC had a wire loose. I re soldered it but when it is connected to receiver w/batt pluged in, it gets really hot. I have a second ESC just like the original ( 50 amp ). It does not have a BEC connected to it. When it is plugged in, I get alot of beeps and none of the servos work. I can disconnect it from receiver and plug in receiver batteries ( nicad ) and the servos will work ! My qustion is, if I plug in the ESC without the BEC, do I have to run seperate batteries to power the receiver and servos ?

Porpicts,
Do you know for certain that the ESC you have does not have a BEC in it?
Just to be sure, I would suggest that you pull the red wire out of the servo leads from the ESC to the receiver. This would ordinarily supply power to the receiver and servos.
Then run the Receiver and servos with a regular flight pack battery for the receiver and servos.
That ESC then would be actiing just like a Opto type of ESC.
Hope this helps you.

Jay...the original ESC came with with a seperate BEC. It ran perfect until yesterday...then it would only beep its head off. Found white wire on BEC had come off. Re-soldered wire to where it looked like it should go, however, after plugging it in, it got real hot !! The second BEC you sent me with the motor replacement, did not have the BEC attached. I wil try to send picts attached to show you. I don't know if the second ESC has built in BEC or not. It does have stamped on back 50Amp. First photo is the original with BEC attached. Second photo is replacement, with no BEC attached. Is it builtin ? I have tried plugging each one in to receiver. Orig...BEC gets real hot and beeps continously ! Second ESC also beeps continously ! I have unplugged each one and plugged in a Nicad flight pack...everything works...that is the servos function normaly..!

As far as I know we do not have any ESC's for the F5-E that do not have that little piggy back UBEC on them.
So I have no idea what your ESC is.
Was that a ESC that we sent to you for a defective replacement on the F5-E.
I have no way to reference any emails with you on this forum.
If you have the old case number I can look information up.
Or your account number, but you don't want to give out you account number over a public forum.
The ESC functions you describe are that like an Opto type of ESC.

Yes it was the replacement ESC for the original. You can go back on this forum for F-5E from propicts and find the original problem with this plane.
Now...I took a short lead and attached it to the second ESC. I then cut the red wire that plugs into the receiver. I then plugged in a flight battery pack to the receiver. NOW...everything works great !!! FINALLY !

Propicts,
Then it is an Opto version ESC, so as you found out with an Opto type of ESC all you need is a flight pack or install a UBEC.
The little piggyback circuit board is a UBEC and the part that broke on you is a UBEC.
So you can either go with a UBEC or a battery flight pack.
Either will work fine.
