Don't get a graupner. They are not good boats. Get a Traxxas Blast for your first boat. The radio systems are exactly the same. You can use a normal 2-channel radio system as you would like a car. The traxxas blast come with a stick radio, but you can change that. It's a good beginner boat and it's very inexpensive.

There's a reason it's offered at hat price...
The Hydrospeed is an aincient design and has been out of production for quite some time now.
The hull on sale is some ten years old and will get brittle, unless it's been painted outside and in.
If you like the ECO-style hull, quick and nimble turning, there are modern designs on the market that are much better.
Do you want to fit out a hull with motor, rudder, servo, batteries and receiver, or do you prefer RTR? (which they rarely are)
Or do you want another type hull?
What conditions the boat will run in, determens what to get: it's no fun to flip your caramaran in rough conditions where a monohull with selfrighting abilities will keep running...

If you are looking for a hull to take it to the pond and have fun with this would a good choice. I have owned one since 1989 and it is still in good shape and not brittle. It is still used a couple of times a year, but when new it was raced almost every weekend. I added water cooling when bought new and is a big help in keeping everything cool.

Graupner boats are great value... unlike the Traxxas Blast which IS a better boat but WAY over priced.

There's nothing wrong with Graupner. I too, have a Hydrospeed that I bought in France in 1988. (I was in the Navy, USS Dwight D Eisenhower CVN 69)
ANYWAYS.........that being said.....the Hydrospeed is a fun boat and looks awesome when she's throwin a roostertail with the surface piercing prop. Granted, it's not FAST, but pretty quick. I've deleted the gear drive and gone direct with a heavy duty coupling to handle all the rev's from the Cordite motor that has 14.4V pumping thru it. I'm using the Jeti Navy ESC....works great, and I get about 8-10 min of run time. I've also put on a Octura 4MM-3/16 drive dog adapter so I can run a X442 prop. (or maybe its an X440). I ALWAYS get the famous question....."where'd ya git it??" And I always smile and say "France!"
