Hi All - I am considering doing an e-conversion on a 33% Pitts. Want to hear from any one that has done this already. I am thinking 10s 8000 Mah will be the ticket.

Thanks for your helpfull and expierienced feedback.

That'll be one cool machine.

I'd consider A123 or Lifepo4. The later is readily available in a 40138 cell with threaded terminals for ease of connection. You can get these in 10ah cells which should do the trick nicely. The are roughly the size of a coke can and would be comporable in weight to the equivalent lipo, but much easier to work with.

Provided you didn't want to draw anymore than 120A continuous you'd be ok.

10s 8000 would fly it, use it if you already have the packs....

if you dont have batteries yet, then go 12s setup 5000ma packs
(2 6s packs in series)
hyperion z504518 or hacker a60L would would be good choices , use a 24x12 prop
spin 99 controller or castle hv85 , end result 3600 to 4000 watts
14/16 lbs

should be a nice flyer

If you already have the 10S packs then go with a higher KV motor and higher amp rated esc. If you don't, go with 12S. It seems like 12S is the standard for the 50-60CC class.

Thanks - Have both FP 5s 3700 ( 25c ) packs so was hoping to to pair them. That and i have 5s 4500 packs so 10s 9000 should be fine i think ?

Was going to go with eather a Hacker OR the newer reaper brushless motor. Shipping may be to expensive to Australia and the week AUD will not help but at this stage, just trying to see if its a viable project from a cost point of view.

Thanks guys.

I have one of the earlier ones (yellow and purple) almost done. Mine has an older PJS-8000 motor on 10s. It is a very light plane so I think 10s will be plenty. I extended the motor mounting box leaving the top open. My battery packs fit nicely in that mounting box. I cut the top off of my cowl following the scale separation lines for the sides and the nose bowl for getting to the batteries. I hope to fly it next week when things slow down here. Good luck with yours.

I got one quick flight in just before dark. On 10s and my old PJS motor spinning a 20X10 Zoar prop it flies very nice. Good power. Will go straight up from TO. May not be enough to do much hovering if that is your thing, but plenty of power for my taste. Weighs 15 lbs RTF. Slows down very well, and easy to land. IMHO 10s is plenty! Dont know when I will get to fly it again as my own car is not big enough...

You can get the motor and speed controller from Hobbyking.com for $160. I just finished my 33% Ultimate biplane with Hobbyking parts. dirt cheap.

Your bipe will fly with 10 cells but don't expect too much power for aerobatics. With 10 cells you'll need the Turnigy SK 230kv which runs for a measly $60 on hobbyking. The prop would be an apce 22x12.

If you want real power go with 12 cells and a Turnigy SK 170kv on an apce 24x12. That's what I'm powering. Power to spare.
