With so many boats to build i am going to shoot for a DX3 Spektrum radio and now here comes the stupid question....
Can i use normal servo's with the spektrum?
I know they do not come with the radio as std and that i will need to but and bind a reveiver for each but am not 100% sure on the servo's

Yep, I've used all the common brands with my Spektrum with no problems- just mind the way you plug it in to the Rx... they have a little diagram on the Rx showing which way to plug in but the rx itself is not 'keyed' mechanically- just pins. :) enjoy your new radio and join us for events at Spreckels sometime! :)

I think it translates as thus
orange = white
red = red
brown = lack

Thanks... I have 3 Dumas Chris Crafts to get done and of course the Fleetscale but that is quite a way's of into the future if i am honest.
I have been to Spreckles a number of times but as yet have not brought anything to run.

Dumas Chris Crafts are welcome to run at the "Classic Gas" events on the SFMYC calendar (among may other events!) :)

Great, i have the 19' Runabout, the Triple cockpit Barrelback and also a Typhoon to complete.
They will also be built in that order, from Pat's build log of the Typhoon it's no mean feat.

Russca,
The Dx 3 channel is a great radio and can take any servo being mindful of the way you plug it in. However, if at some point you want to sail, you might have to buy a 2 stick radio. If you are just buying the 3x because it is designated for ground use, don't be conc erned. All of the 2.4 ghz systems can be used on ground or air.Think a little ahead and think of the extra things you might want to control....lights....horns....sound, etc in the future. The other factor is that you can buy alot more equipment for the money.
Just think about it a while...you know best what your needs will be..make a list of wants and needs...works for me:D

Like Aerominded said, get the plug in right the first time, before applying voltage. Otherwise you may flunk the smoke test....... :eek:

Actually look closer at a Spectrum or JR receiver and servo plug. You will see that two edges of the servo plug have tiny bevels and the plastic receiver case has small projections that prevent the servo plug from being plugged in backwards.
BTW no harm will be done to the receiver or servo if you force them in wrong. Center wire is positive so you can not reverse polarity.
Been known to use a small file on Futaba servo plugs more than once.

I would look at the DX6i or DX7.
10-model memory.

I'll be honest and say that for the Chris Crafts i really only intend on using just the 2 channels for rudder and ESC, no plans to go with any lights etc

Just realized i have a DX6i with my Blade 400 Heli so i am good to go. I also sent the Tx into Horizon recently for a recall repair and they were very nice and sent me an AR6000 receiver FOC. Also a freind of mine from work had the same issue with his DX6i and he has donated his free AR6000 to the Chris Craft cause...
Looks like things have worked out pretty well
