I hope this is the right place to ask this,

I am new to larger size electrics and this will be my first UBEC application, I just am not sure how to connect things together.

This is a 3amp Turnigy BEC, it will be used with 4s lipo, 500-800Watts motor, drawing 35-55amps, and 4 standard servos. Will this UBEC be able to handle this?

Below is a pic of a mock-up connection, does everything look all right? Which channel does the UBEC plug into on the receiver? Do I need a separate battery for the BEC?

Thanks in advance for all the help,

Cheers,

Well I'd connect the red on the battery to the red on the other 2 devices and the black to the black...but I think you're about there. The UBEC can plug into any spare Rx socket or if you don't have an spare one into any socket via a Y-lead.

Not sure why you're asking about a separate battery. The point of a UBEC is to avoid needing separate battery to run the Rx and servos.

GOK - you're nearly right! All you need to do is remove the red wire from the ESC's plug which is going into the receiver. The UBEC will then power everything from your main pack - you don't normally need a separate one, which is the whole point of any BEC. You can plug the UBEC into any spare channel on your receiver, it doesn't matter at all.

Thanks guys,

I was asking about a seperate battery just to be extra safe but I guess it doesn't make much sense

Just a bit confused on your below comment Gordon,

Does this mean I don't need to hook up the ESC to the receiver?

GOK - All you need to do is remove the red wire from the ESC's plug which is going into the receiver. The UBEC will then power everything from your main pack

Thanks again,

Gok,

The majority of speedos have a bec in them that supplies the power to the receiver from the main battery...

The ubec now does that job, so you need to remove the red wire from the plug( tape it up) so that the ubec powers the rx and not the speedos bec....plug the speedo into the rx as normal...

You'll probably find it's really not necessary to run a seperate battery for the rx/servos... The motor consumes a lot more than the other stuff so when the main battery starts to drop, you'll notice it on the prop way before the battery is too low to power the rest of the stuff.. giving you plenty of opportunity to land it..

Some ESC's let you specify the cut-off voltage and allow you to have a 'soft cut', eg reduced power to a) warn you its low and b) give you plenty of reserves to control the model down..
