View Full Version : Question Looking for a durable EPP wing.

I used to have a mini speed wing a few years ago and really liked it. I did not like the motor mount or wood sides that would break occasionally.
I am not looking for a very durable wing 36" or smaller that will use my slow stick 3S 2200 packs.
Anyone know a wing that can use my 2200 packs besides the stryker?

Durable in a Wing, since many are already EPP these days, would be the lighter the better. Of course, the lighter the Wing, usually the slower it goes, but the easier it crashes.

What are some good wing makers? Is speedwing one of the best? What other ones are moderately priced?

Hey Flat, I just ordered a pair of 48" EPP from McClain. I like the 48" wingspan to carry my 2200 3S Packs.

Awesome! Let me know how they do for you. I'm in the market for a new wing myself.

Ohio Combat has incredible wings. You can either build yourself, or he has a couple of ARF's in the works with two motors included, at a price you will not find anywhere else, for that quality a wing. Send him a PM, and you can see one of the ARF's here:

Shoot him a PM, you will not be dissapointed

I have Mcclain's 36" EPP wing sitting on my desk for a month.. I couldn't figure out how to build it because my battery packs (2x 3S 2200's) are thicker than the actual wing. Also i have a 2700KV motor thats a bit on the heavy side... so balancing would be difficult.
I finally figured out that I will need to make a semi full fuselage that steps out about 4-5" from the front center of the wing to house the batteries, and better the balancing. If I figure out how to post pictures, I will.. any help on that would be appreciated since i tried everything I could on this site...and still can't find it.
Planning to start the build this week.. should take about 2-3 days depending on spare time...
Cheers

I have been experimenting with such an idea myself.
You could also cut your motor bay in more or go with a prop slot design. this would put your motor farther forward and help your CG quest as well.

i have one thing to say that might help out... i bought a wing from ritewingrc.com the wings are super durable and chris's design is unbelievable. he has real high quality products. i crashed my wing on a slope doing at least 90 and hit a tree. absolutely nothing happened to the wing. i cracked the nose a bit but that fixed right up really fast. i would definitely check them out. chris is an unbelievable person and really nice to deal with. i would seriously check them out. ritewingrc.com

Ian, the reputation of the Ritewing is Stellar!
The wing loading is just to high for my applications. If I flew more slope it would be different.
Checked out Sylvanair, Nice wings but but a bit small. jp

JP Electric,
U read my mind man! The first pic is somewhat of what Im goin gfor. How does it fly like that? Have you noticed any major differences? compared to normal wings?
Mine will be running at about 85-95 MPH I would assume and I'm curious what that would do to the aerodynamics...

I also liked the design in the first photo best. It actually adds lift to the airfoil.
The other design, plastic over Coroplast has proven to be more durable in practical application. The all EPP approach served me well with the remaining build of the three.
As far as the effect of speed? I find that if I can get Her to fly well slow, She will fly well fast. As long as your thrust angle is right.
The faster you go, the less effective your control surfaces. Thus the less effect of the peculiarities of your airframe. ;) Check out the fuselage on the Concord.
The airfoil itself will determine the capabilities of your wing much more then a bit of fuse out the nose. I fly my wings with lots of power, the nose has not been a problem at speed. ;)
