Just a word of warning to everyone.... that first link tries to automatically install software. Firefox blocked it for me, but others might not be so lucky.

Free? Get real---!

Do you still believe in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, and that the state lottery will make you rich? :p

Hey, then go for the freebie, fool---. :D

Actually, Kap, it is free, and it's quite good!
It started off as an open-source code, much like the Firefox browser... although I think there may be "funded" versions now? Haven't been to the site in a while, as I can do what I need in simple 2D CAD... but aspiring naval architects could do worse than this.

Edit!:
BUT I WOULDN'T DOWNLOAD IT FROM THAT .SU ADDRESS! Stands for "Soviet Union"... wouldn't take nuthin from a .ru site neither...

Here's the SourceForge address instead:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/freeship/

Or, the free version of the Delftship package at
http://www.delftship.net/

I have friend who pays for a T1 and is paranoid enough to physically disconnect his internet when he is not his system.

FREE!ship is now an "open source" application. The version posted on SourceForge is legit, I would avoid downloading it from anywhere else.
FREE!ship was developed by a friend of mine, Martijn van Engeland, in the Netherlands (I was on the SourceForge team many years ago when he first started the project). FREE!ship is no longer being developed and has been superseded by DelftShip, a commercial, professional level ship / yacht design product. There is a free version of DelftShip available here: http://www.delftship.net/delftship/index.php?option=com_contact&view=contact&id=1&Itemid=9 The open source version of FREE!ship and free version of DelftShip are fully functional and include all the features you'd need to design scale models and print out plans. If designing boats on a computer interests you, this is the software to get. We've used both FREE!ship and DelftShip to recreate ship models for marine simulators. It's without a doubt the best ship / yacht design app out there IMHO. Although it's a Windows application, it will also run under Linux (using WINE) and Mac OS X (using Parallels or Fusion).
