Hello. I am, among other hobbies currently a Year 11 (Form 5 for the oldies =P) student. As part of the design and technology course we are required to design and construct a storage device. The type of device is up to personal choice and I have chosen to build a portable field workstation for RC, similar to the Great Mate (http://www.modelstands.co.uk/) although designed to be a much cheaper product, yet still maintain the same level of functionality. As part of this project we are required to gather information with a survey of our target market, in my case all you RC Pilots out there! It would be a great help to me if you could post a reply containing your answers.

Thanks in advance,
Nick Mather

P.S. This survey is also posted on AUSRC and RC Universe

1, flight box with Fuel, electric fuel pump, electric starter, battery, power panel, field charger, two regular dictionary sized drawers of misc parts and tools, after run oil. Then I have a transmitter, tail anchor, small cooler big enough for six cans, chair or two, small "U" stand for holding the planes whill assembling and cleaning. In a small tray in this stand is paper towels and windex. Then I also have a homemade rack that holds the planes in my vehicle.
2, B
3, I dont work out of my vehicle and its less than 20m 90% of the time.
4, yes the small one mentioned above
5, purpose built
6, no
7, for me at this time i wouldnt need such a product because i start my planes on the ground and if I need to do major work there are tables at my field. However if I did use a stand like this I would like a large area with lips around the edges to set tools and parts. I would also like to be able to pull a chair up to it or elevate it to standing height so I didnt have to bend over. If your idea is to have it be more of a workbench instead of just a stand then yes I would be more interested.

Nick.M - If you want to research some threads on flight boxes, (not necessarily model stands, but some may include a model supports), do the following search -

Click on Search then in the drop down menu, click on Advanced Search
A new menu page will open.
Enter flight box in the keyword(s) box.
Set Search Titles Only in the box just underneath.
Set Exact Phrase in the box just to the right.
Click on Search Now.

I found 81 threads, not all will be of any use but they will give you an idea of what people use.
You may find that few people view this forum.

Good luck with your project. :)
