Hey all I am new to nitro I usually fly electric but I have stepped up to the plate now. I bought a Hobbico Superstar with an OS 55ax upgrade now the plane also came with the stock OS 40 LA and its sitting in my room I want to throw it on a plane. My questions are...
What size of a plane can I put this engine on? Max and Minimum
What advantages or disadvantages to this engine?
What else am I going to need to install it besides a fuel tank and fuel line that a plane shell does not come with?
Thanks!!

Size will depend what you want the model to do, you could fly a 4 metre powered glider or a 1m high speed delta with the same engine!

Errrm...since either of your engines will work on your trainer if you measure the trainer it should give you a hint or two about what size plane you can fly with those engines ;).
For faster or more aerobatic a bit smaller than the trainer will work.

The Great Planes Dazzler,Tower hobbies Fun51,and the Tower Uproar are a perfect match for the LA40 as are most 40 sized trainers It will have more than enough power for any of these rOplanes...Most of the above mentioned come in either ARF form or you can choose to build one.If you are a 3d addict these will prolly not fit ur style. They are zippy all around tough everyday extremely reliable little flyer's.And as far as that LA 40 It is one of the most reliable engines that has ever benn produced..

Had a LA 40 on my Fun51. Great match. Loved it. Just one bad thing, the LG is awful. Sadly the plane was stolen. :(

i assume you mean cg? you are right if that is what ur talking about.I had to put the battery pack behind the engine on the opposite side of the fuel tank. It flew perfect after that. The first flight with everything where it should as per plans was hairy to say the least..

Actually I meant landing gear. I get bored easy and I setup aircraft carrier arrested landings, spot landings, other abuse. The LG was thrashed in a very short time. I ended up getting a CF gear and reinforced the area where the gear mounts. Flying wise I loved it.
I don't remember having trouble with the CG. I probably just set it up where it was marked on the plans.
I'm thinking of getting an Uproar since it looks like the same wing/tail platform but the forward fuse and gear can take more abuse.

Since you are essentially asking what would be a good second plane I would recommend either a Great Planes Big Stick 40 http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXBMM9&P=0 or a Hanger 9 Ultra Stick 40 http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=HAN1690
If a 'stick' plane is not your cup of tea you might also consider
Hanger 9 Pulse XT 40 http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=HAN4100
or Great Planes Super Sportster 40 http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXAVR1&P=0
The Sig Four Star 40 is also considered by many as "the" perfect second plane http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFKA9&P=7 or http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFKB0&P=7
If you learn to fly your trainer well you will be able to handle any of these planes (it might be a good idea to ask your instructor to maiden and buddy box you the first flight since some of these respond much quicker to the controls than your trainer will).
In any case all of these planes will love having the 55AX bolted on the nose.
