hi guys im marc from malta a small island in europe mid Mediterranean
sea. i thank most of you for your help i joined this forum a week ago
and i have got some plans from you guys thanks alot.. after abit of
evaluation i opted for the 72 inch. scaled it down to 54 inches as for
me i saw it wil be to big as 72 inch even to transport in my car.. i
started working on it today. follow my post i will put up photos of the
work going on hopefully tomorrow after my first day as this night i re
scaled it and in the afternoon had it printed and right now started
cutting the wood. hope to be supervised by some highly experienced
people and please if you do notice something wrong tell me thanks. im
planning to finish the boat in wood and after using it to make a mould
and the boat i will finally use will be a fibreglass hull. as an engine
i am going to look for a chain saw engine or a 33cc engine from a
portable water pump. i will convert it with a water cooled head and also
something that i am going to try is to put up a ratio between the engine
and main shaft to put up the revs due to being at 6500 on these engines.

Hello, I am also somewhat new here and I used to the 72 inch mono plans
scaled down to 65 inches. I am currently in the fiberglassing stage and
have not been able to post pictures yet because I have been ... busy.
I, myself, am building it to be as cheap as possible. I got all the
wood free, and aluminum free, engine - had one, only paid for the
fiberglass. Being that way, I am setting mine up with one rudder, that
will be completely custom...and completely free! The only thing I need
to figure out is how to get my engine to the prop.
If you are willing to spend more, I would suggest a double rudder due
to the size of the boat...but I am an amateur as well, this being my
first boat. So, good luck to you in your boat building as well!

Hello marcmk1. The boat will be pretty narrow when scaled down to 54",
I'm not sure how well it will run or how stable it will be. It may be
fine, but I'm not sure. The other problem with scaling it down will be
that the stringers will get closer together and your motor may not fit
between them.
One rudder will be fine, you don't need dual rudders on any boat in my
opinion. A gear box will work, but you will probably have to use smaller
props because while gaining rpm you will lose torque.
I am looking forward to seeing the pics of your build.

good morning thanks for your replies therefore i will go for 1 rudder
use as for the stringers i will be leaving them narrow on the wooden
hull and then set them apart when doing the fibreglass hull. since ill
be using the gearbox ratio i will have to use smaller props just being
sincere i do not know how to calculate prop size and know little about
props. today i have a free day so i will continue to cut wood and set up
the jig to start building it and willthen post pics to that point.
as to transom size it is about ten inches at the back measured at half
its hight.. an engine is supposed to fit. this is like a test boat with
the biggest engine setup i have made. thanks for your time dwr9 my name
is marc btw

Ok thanks for all your help and kindness Doug....If you dont mind i
would like to ask you a question.....which is the best hull ????? all
made of wood ??? Or make the model of wood and use it as a cast to do
the hull in fibreglass (all fiberglass)???? because i came in doubt what
shall i do .....because from pics uploaded here i can see that who used
the all wood hull and who used it as a cast ...to do it of
fiberglass...And does it effect the speed and performance of the boat
????
Regarding the plans there is a ziped file in dxf that i cant open ...do
i have to download cad ????
Thanks once again for all your time

I don't know that either wood or fiberglass has an advantage. It just
depends what you like I think. I prefer wood myself. If you want to make
a fiberglass boat you actually have to build it twice. Once in wood to
use as a plug for a mold. Then you have to make the mold before you can
actually make a boat. If built carefully I believe a wood hull will be
lighter than an equivalent glass hull. I think wood boats are easier to
repair also. As long as the boats are straight and true when bult I
doubt there's much if any difference in performance. I think the choice
between glass or wood is mainly personal preference. Doug

Dxf files are cad files. You may be able to find a program to read dxf
files by doing a google search. Doug
