Hi,
This is my new toy, and I wanted to know the optimal head speed for
1- mild aerobatics
2 - 3D
Does anyone knows the minimum and maximum head speed that I may have in this
chopper? (I know it doesnīt like too low head speeds, because it starts
bibrating a lot)
I managed until now to get a fairly constante head speed (everything by
ear), but my new adventures in 3D land require a more acurate setup.
This is my setup:
Kyosho 32VR
OS 32 SX-H
Hatori pipe
530mm Fibreglass Funkey blades
Futaba GY501 w/ S9205
3 x S9450
1 x S3001
with some Zeal and Kyosho upgrades
Kyosho Jet Ranger Fuselage (the plastic one for the old concept)

And my new toy is a Futaba GV1, the rest of the setup has already some hours
of good flying

Anywhere from 1500 to 1700 J.

Them bibrations are a vitch ain't they :-) If you keep below 1850 you're Ok,
although the heads are very capable of withstanding the pull from spinning
at 2000 with the standard weight (100gram) blades. I've run NHP's at 2000
with no problem other than the noise from the engine screaming it's nuts
off.

The GV-1 will give you that but ONLY if your maximum head speed isn't higher
than the engine can drive with full collective and full cyclic pitch
deflection.
If the engine bogs down NO governor will make it stop doing that because
it's drag that's causing the bogging, and if you set the intended head speed
higher than the engine can drive, it'll TRY to reach the programmed speed,
but it will only be able to when the load is taken off the blades.
What happens then is the engine bogs on the climbouts and then revs it's
bollocks off when the load is removed and it's EXACTLY like flying with a
poorly set up heli (which is because it IS a poorly set up heli), so......
with a good motor on board and a "reasonable" head speed programmed in, the
rotor/engine speed will be as constant as you could wish for. Start with
1600 rpm on the head and then work up to the speed that the engine CAN'T
handle and then come back a hundred revs and then forget about head speed
after that.

Thanks for your answer. If I can mount the governor before this weekend (and
if the weather permits) Iīll let you know how everything went.
