View Full Version : Discussion Sims with a Mac?

I'm just starting out with R/C helicopters and would like to get a simulator. My biggest problem is all the SIMS that have been suggested run on Windows O/S and I'm a Mac user. I could run Windows on my Mac via Bootcamp, but that isn't the most desirable situation. Do any SIMS exist that someone could recommend that would be compatible with a Mac?

Thanks!

Disregard - I should've been a bit more patient in my search - I see this question has come up many times before.

Hi,

Found one on

http://www.alphamacsoftware.com/

but site seems unavailable today. Did not test it.

You can also search for crrcsim. Tested it. Very simple and lots of bugs. Works with sim-controller EK2-0905A. Seem to remember only planes though.

The new Platinum version of Aerofly supports Mac too.

The windows version works fine with sim-controller. Also quite realistic. Don't know about Mac.

Hope this helps in your search.

You could always try Parallels (http://www.getparallels.com/?gclid=CLvDvuvUwpkCFQ4eDQodIndnuA&gclid=CLvDvuvUwpkCFQ4eDQodIndnuA) if you don't like bootcamp.

Hi guys
seems like we are all in the same boat i have just posted the same question on another thread and have been recommended crrcsim which is great. But being a bear of little brain can't work out the instructions !!!
then i tried heli- x which downloads fine and has easy to read instructions, but it won't recognize my dx7 plugged into the mic out put on the computer and seems to take foever to up load (perhaps because the tx is not USB??)
which leeds me to asking has anyone got any bright ideas.
all answers are to be posted in laymans terms for the afore mentioned reason,
(remember we are mac owners and are above these kind of problems !!)

You are right. HELI-X excepted a USB- connected interface. On a PC there are solutions to use the soundcard, on a Mac I do not know anything in this direction.

FSOne runs fine under Parallels, on a fast enough Intel Mac.

CRRCSIM does work, but it's really only a slope soaring sim (great for that though).

I've not yet got Heli-X working right, but that's from lack of attention more than anything else... mind you, Heli-X works fine under Parallels too.

Hi,

HELI-X does not need Parallels, it runs native on Mac-OS (Intel and PPC)

See the other topic on this site:

They also found Aerofly Pro DeLuxe

No user-experiences on AFPD for the Mac yet.

It does, but the Windows version works under Parallels too... and on my system it worked better, last time I tried it.

Heli-x only runs on Intel Macs not PPC. The Java version it requires only works with Intel chips. I wish it could though. My iBook is waiting for a better sim.

Hi,

oupps, sorry there are some misunderstandings.

HELI-X 0.9 (the free version) runs only on Intel-Macs, but the version 1.1 and higher also work on PPC-Macs (it only requires Java 5 and not Java 6 as the version 0.9 does).

Cheers,

Michael

Copy for Version 1.1:

"A second version is for Mac OS-X. You need at least Mac OS X 10.5 with Java for Mac Update 1 (Java SE 6). These Java version is only available for 64bit-Intel-Macs. You can obtain it as dmg."

This was true for an older version of HELI-X. I have changed it, but the web site is wrong, out of date, so to say.

You can just try.

I got Heli-X working on my iBook G4. Setup was also very easy with my DX7 and MileHighWings usb adaptor. But I could only use the Helix and EC-135 models from the demo. The other models were to big for my old mac to handle.

I am impressed with the physics. This is far better the RC Helicopter Simulator. However the Helix model seems like a big heli. Far easier than my real 450. Is the Helix modeled after the Trex 600?
