Don't know how many of you use your Dremel or other rotary tool but if you like me and it is old, mine is around 30 yrs. old, I am always going out a buying new stuff for it and at 4-8 dollars it starts to mount up. I went to HD today for a couple of things and it was going to cost me 12 bucks, then I saw this set of 150 different shafts and replacement disks, sanding drums, cut off wheels and buffers etc for $19.95, I thought it was a good deal so if you need bits now or in the near future check it out.

For "Dremel" name branded products that is indeed a good price.

If you can live with 'other-brand' stuff, I have seen and purchased huge sets of accessories at Harbor Freight:

It's good to have a variety of bits around, but I rarely use most of them. Sometimes the cutoff wheels... occasionally the high speed steel burrs... but most of the time, I'm using 1/16" and 1/8" solid carbide straight bits for opening holes and such. Might be sold as grout removal bits? But they are end-cutting (can drill in) and have diamond shaped teeth on the sides- great for general purpose material removal.
Not inexpensive, but I've been using the one 1/8" bit since I had to hog out a lot of fiberglass on my Yamato build, and it's still going strong.

I have six Dremel tools in the shop. One is fitted as a handheld router, one as a drill press, two with 90 degree attachments and two regular ones. Two are one-speed, the rest variable. ;)

I use them all a lot, and really work them hard.

With the purchase of each tool, I got all the discs, drums, etc. as part of the accessory packages, so I'm pretty much set on spares. :)

The only extras I bought were some keyless chucks, a few various router bits and carbide cutoff wheels. ;)

I'm good to go for quite a while---. :D

Gotta say tho, Greysquirrel picked up on a smart deal---. ;)

I have two Dremels, one corded and one cordless. The battery on the cordless gets cycled regularly. Two Christmas' ago I got a 185 piece accessory set. Like Pat I use the straight bits for cut outs. I went through a bunch of them on my Badger hull cutting gallery openings. I also get allot of use from the drum sander in tight areas where the bigger drill press mounted ones won't go.

The beauty of the accessory sets are when that one job comes up, where the piece you swore you would never use is perfect for it, you get to have that feeling that you are a genius.

Canadian Tire Stores usually have sets like those on sale every month or so, I have picked up a couple of them. I also found one at a secondhand store for $5.00. all very useful.

Lucky buggers :p
those sets are around the $50 mark over here, best purchase I ever made were 50 carbide burrs ex PCB mills I think on E-Bay. Ive used them on timber, aluminium, ceramic tiles, makes short work on fibreglass and even cast iron. there's a cheap generic set around but the stuff that is in it doesn't last half as long as the Dremel branded gear.

Everyone with a rotary tool, buy yourself a set of the Robart carbide cutters. After you use them you will wonder how you lived so long without them. ;)

I have that set...It cost me 20 Euros here in Spain.....Thanks to der Kapitan....i just realised I can replace the collet system with a keyless chuck on my Dremel 300. I am about to order one as I have always found the collet system to be frustrating at best..

my father in law does silver work (amongst his 25 other hobbies) and he found a dentist that was retiring and gave him his old belt drive drill that they used for cleaning teeth. Not quite the flexibility of a dremel but it does take the dremel bits and will run all day without the huge motor (1/4 horse maybe?) even getting hot. I have told him when he passes I want it and of course he plans to live to be 100+ (his mother passed last Feb at 103).

Footski, I could never find collets that would fit all of my small drills---. :(

The keyless chuck opened up a new world for me---. :)

Just got the feeling that I should get into the 21st century and break down and retire my old 30 yr. old Dremel and break down and buy one of the new models. When I look a accessories I notice a lot that wont fit my tool.

I have been using a keyless chuck as well for a few years now. I do find it to be convenient when switching between mandrel sizes. But as long as all the bits I am using are the same mandrel size I find the regular thumb cap and button lock system to be sufficient.

I went to HD this evening and they don't even carry the Dremel name brand 150 piece kit. I know Harbor Freight carries stuff like this, but I prefer to buy high quality even if it costs alot more. It works better, and lasts longer.

Funny, the last time I went to Home Cheapo, they carried Dremel stuff---. :)

You might even look at Sears, they sell Dremel-made tools under their own Craftsman label, but do carry Dremel accessories. ;)

The times I need to replace a bit quickly (like when I break it or burn it up) I go to Menards . If I'm planning ahead I support the LHS. Menards is much closer than the LHS for emergency replacements.

HD did have name brand Dremel stuff, just not the 150 piece accessory kit mentioned in post #1. Nothing even close to it, just single piece accessories mainly with a few small packs of accessories thrown in.

I will try Lowes as Kmot suggested. I doubt anyone is going to find the killer name brand deal mentioned in post #1. That was definitely a great score! :)

Once in a Blue moon Ace hardware will have the smaller accessory sets on sale. I still like it better getting them as gifts.

Willem, how do you think I got six Dremels? ;)

The in-laws always ask what I want for Christmas, or a birthday. I really don't want more sweaters, etc., so it's my stock answer---. :p

Subs to "Wooden Boat", Dremel tools or attachments, etc---. :)

I use this one bought at Home Depot...Bought it cuz I just knew I would need it.

Just wish I could use other bits with it...Is that what you can use a chuck for with this? New to the power tools really not sure what I can do with it yet.

I have a small vise that I have clamped it into when I want to use it to grind or cut things out.

I went to a different HD and to Lowes this evening. Both had the exact 150 piece kit listed in post #1 for the same price that is in post #1. That is the regular price and not a sale price. I have all of the accessories that are in the 150 piece kit.

HD also had a 200 piece kit that had some stuff that I don't have YET, but I will find a way to justify buying it I am sure. Lowes did not have the 200 piece accessory kit. 200 piece kit was $29.95 and had pieces that are $10.00 seperately in it. Better deal in my opinion.
