One of my friends came back from a trip recently with a used Gentle Lady, which was given to him by a friend he visited. I did some minor repairs on the plane, and installed a Futaba 6EX 2.4GHz radio, a new battery, and some servos to make it ready for training. He sprang for a buddy box and trainer cord.

The Lady flew very nicely in some test flights, and I was even able to work a thermal on the second flight.

I'm using my water-cooled resistor to reduce the power of the winch for launching the plane.

I'd forgotten how nicely these planes fly, and how good they are as trainers. My friend has ZERO experience flying RC, but I didn't have to take control of the plane at all during his third and fourth flights. He even landed the plane successfully.

We got in about ten flights today. Two of them were over six minutes, thanks to some nice thermals. He's really enthused, and he's got some good experience to build on the next time we fly.

I have to agree with you here. It is a real simple plane to fly. I discovered that mine is actually to light and flies much better with some ballast. 2 seasons ago I had my daughter out flying it and she did almost 1 hr her first day out. I will admit it was a great day to fly, but in the hands of someone who just was learning she picked up the essentials quite easily.

I still have mine she is over 20 years old. Building a highly modified version with a friend. They will be able to be launched off my 3 meter hose monster or winches or towed or piggy back.....any way you get one up there is good :D

Hard to beat the Lady as a basic trainer. She seems to like these Georgia skies. I'm currently building a couple of them for some of the Hodge Hounds so they can get into thermal soaring and get away from the glow juice. We need more sailplane pilots in this area and I'll build them if I can make some converts! ;)

I have never had one but flew one belonging to someone else many years ago, I was young, I was also taken by how forgiving it was.

Roger doing a great job as a glider guider!
