Does anyone out there have a set of plan's for the Alcyone 2m, all I have right now are core's. I've always liked the lay out of it. Also my old S.W. Classic t-shirt that had it illustrated on the back is worn out, another reason I liked it.

sorry there has been no response. The Alcyone 2M was my first "real" glider, and I enjoyed it right up to impact. The wing had a massive balsa stick for a spar, overlayed with carbon tow for caps. The turned-up tips just butt-jointed to the main surface. I recommend using fiberglass or carbon tissue along the trailing edge where the sheets meet. If you scratch build a fuselage, I recommend making it about two-three inches longer. Somewhere, I have saved the horizontal tail just because it was so pretty.

I recently acquired a Dove of the same era, and there are more out there, I found out.

Good luck.

Yours, Greg

Thank's for the info Glidermang. You know that fuse kind of look's like a nsp Kestral fuse with a FF stab, I have 2 Kestral's one NIB, and the other one built but as an aileron with a slight amount of poly in the o/b panel's, it's a total animal on the winch, maybe I'll fly it sometime soon, Dave.

I had a Kestral, too, and built one for the Las Vegas club. Bullet proof.

The fuselage of the Alcyon did indeed resemble the Kestral. The built-up version was also spruce stringers with balsa cross-bracing aft of the wing. The fin was integral with the fuselage and the tail was all-flying styrofoam with 1/16 balsa skin.

I recall I used a servo in the fuselage to drive the ailerons via a kluged-up arrangement to connect the flexible push-rods. I used the first-ever non-standard size servos I ever saw to drive the rudder and elevator.

The wing spar was a large balsa stick flanked with plywood doublers that carreid the load through the wing root. Carbon tow was used to make spar flanges. Bullet-proof.

Gregg, I've scaled plans up could I scale them down. I have a set of plan's for the 3m Alcyone, and I wonder what percentage, thank's again Dave.

I have a 100" Alcyone kit. I bet the fuse is pretty close to the 2M version. I'd be happy to let you borrow the plans if you'd like.

If I recall correctly, the fuselage is the same for both the 100" and 2 meter versions.

Hey, John, is that you? Still working or have you retired, yet? How are the UAVs coming along?

I'm back in NM, just not in ABQ.

Hi Greg,

It's me. Still working, still on UAV's. It's unfortunate, but the UAV work has kind of burned me out on my RC hobby. Still got some projects in the works, just can't get enough traction/motivation to complete them. Even got another DLG, but haven't touched it. That along with a 2m Miles, A Yardbird, and a scale LS7. One day they will see the sky, just not sure when.....

Are you coming up for the Blue Skies over New Mexico this year?

John (Sorry to be off topic.....)

I have a partially built 2m plane at home. The plans may be good enough to copy. I will check tonight.

Hey prodjx, I got your PM and replied, but it looks like Dick may have an even better option. Let me know.

I just checked and I have the plans and they are slightly yellowed, but intact. It is two sheets that I have taped together and I now have one sheet 84" x 36.5" Who knows how to get something like that copied?

Dick:

I've had good luck at Staples, Office Max and Kinko's.

They can be scanned and copied into a computer file, too. That's much easier to ship!

The only thing that might be different is the spar joiner's for the main wing panel's.
Dick, indeed that might be the better way to go, I'll pm you my info, and thank's.
How do you guy's get burned out on your job's, maybe I missed something when I worked for Grumman for 27 year's and then another few more year's as a contractor doing the same work, advanced composites and assembler riveter senior. Know this though my son believe's I'm obsessed with glider's oh well. Dave
